Last Year at this tinie I made a very
strong plea to the Graduate Brothers for

many of you have taken the "three-years-*
of-fun-and-the-hell-with-the-future"
attitude.
Last meek several of the alumni
came dovin to a Saturday meeting v.'ith
the Cabinet and our Section Chief.
Those

us a hand. Fvery single one of you can
help. Many of you knom right nov.' of boys
in your area v;ho -..'ill 'oe coming to the
University of ilaine next fall. Call
them. Tell them about The Castle.

ball game played betueen Phi Gam and
neighboring A.T.O, in A.T.O.'s hockey
rink; v.'ith t".'0 feet of mud providing,
dirty fun for the participants and
entertainment for
the spectators.
PTJRPLE TED PET IRES
Ted Curtis (Maine *23), announced
his retirement as Purple Legionaire
to the Omega I!u Fijis at a recent
meeting.
For the past 32 years he has
se'rved his fraternity vjith distinction
in this capacity. Though his post as
Faculty Manager of Athletics has
demanded much of his time and energy,
Ted has al-rays been present v.'ith vords
of encoura.gement and advice in times
of crises and calm.
He has made
friends throughout Neu England through
his active role in every major athletic
association in the area. Among the
honors Ted has garnered over the years
are the coveted Maine Black Bear Auard,
The Bangor Daily Mevs Av.'ard, and the
Bov/'doin Alumni Special Citation,

George Giostra, '59, married December 20—James DiBias, '53 nov; living in
Marylan4,is the father of a baby girl,—Harry rioycr, '28 formerly of Morristovjn,
N,J, deceased,—Carlo Cimino, '60 is nov; heading up the Cimino Construction Co.,
in Portland, Tie,—Vie have just been informed, James Page,'34 has been made presr .•
ident of a potato starch company in Caribou,
Elston Cooper,'20 dropped in for
a visit at the Castle recently,
Tom Tear is nov; employed at the T.E,P. house up

Verge Forbes,'58 is nov/ doing graduate v/ork at Springfield.—-Al Quine
'60 is tcvaching at Caribou,
"Bugs" Moran,'61 is running an orphanage in Korea.

recently v;hile at the University interviev/ing for Scott Paper Co.

A fev; of the returning alumni this Homecoming v;ere: James Duffy,
Tommy Larkin, Richard Ross, Harold Hutchinson, Jerry Pedro, Ralph Keef, Ed Shimmin,
Dave Hutchinson,'61 is nov: in Europe serving as an officer in the U. S. Navy.
Ron Thurston,'59 has been transferred to Bangor recently by Travelers Insurance,
Jerry DeGrandPre,'60 has signed up for an extended tour of duty v/ith the
U, S, Army,
ACTIVITIES
Omega IIu is v/ell represented on campus this year, Jim Goff, president of the
house, is also the president of the Interfraternity Council, John Roberts v/as
co-captain of this year's varsity football team, Jim and John v/ere both selected
to the Senior Skulls, Joe 'Eilliamson is a Sophomore 0\/l. Paul McCarron is serving
as chairman for the up-coming Greek V/eekend v/ith Stu Gerald serving under him as
chairman of the ticket and program committee, Tom Barren and Bob Iless v/ere
selected to Scabbard and Blade, the national R,0,T,C. honor society. Ted Sher .'ood
and Stvi Rich have augmented our representation on the Maine Debate Team,
This year's Homecoming ^/as a great success vdth the alvimni enjoying the
naine-Nev/ Hampshire football game. The Jesters played at the house party that
evening. The Fiji Castle enjoyed many fine parties this fall and the Pi Phi's
helped us give our annual Christmas Partv for 4:he orphans.
For the "fiji Five" Intramtural basketball is literally flying high v/ith an
excellent eight-v/in a.nd one loss record. Our talented team, led by Bill Bourbon,
at forv/ard, and backcourt men Phil Morton and Bob Hess, have been doing a good job.
One of the highlights of the season //as upsetting Phi Eta Kappa, v;ho v/as previous
ly undefeated for t/;o years. The final tournament nov/ under v/ay betv/een the top
three teams in each league finds the Fiji's v/ifh a good chance for a campus champ
ionship.
Our bov/ling team is presently in third place v/ith tv/o matches left, VJe are
looking forv/ard to seeing hov/ our valleyball and Softball teams finish this spring.

Ted is a brother in whom v/e can all take a great measure of pride for his
achievements and his devotion to his fraternity. May v/e all take this opportunity
to say, "Thanks Ted."

remind you that v;e are still in the same location. By this time, I imagine that
I have made some of you angry. Thank God for those of you v;ho have stuck by us
in the j^ast. Special thanks go to several members of our fraternity v/ho returned
the forms that Tom Hanson mailed earlier.
As I type this letter to you, the Brothers are getting ready to vote for a new
president, I urge that each and every one of you make an attempt to get to Orono
before the end of the semester and give your congratulations and support to the
nev; president, VJhoever he may be, he has a long, hard road to travel. So do all the
future presidents.
If I have made you mad enough, so mad that you v:ant to wring my neck, saying
"Vrno is that nut up there?" may I suggest that you plan to come on Saturday, May 11,
After you get through with me, you can enjoy our Pig Dinner, Banner Lee Mahood,
perhaps the finest speaker in all of the National Hierarchy will be here.
Seriously, x;e sincerely hope that many of you will find it possible to
