SPRING 1982
Political Struggle in Fijilond
We at Phi Gamma Delta have always boasted
about our "Famous Fiji's", but this year, we have a
really special attraction.
You al l know that Nebraska's governor Charles
Thane '44 is from Lambda Nu, but did you know
that his most likely opponent in the gubernatorial
race is also from Lambda Nu?
His name is Robert Kerrey '65, and he hopes to
gain the Democratic nomination for governor in the
upcoming election. Kerrey's on aspiring Nebraska
businessman who believes that good business sense
and strong leadership are prime characteristics of
on effective governor.
Indeed, this year's gubernatorial race will be
one worth following. We hove the experienced
Thone versus the innovative Kerrey. Good luck to
you both!

In his work he recruits and

They raised an estimated two mi l lion dollars last

\r\nPresident's.Message
Saving the best for lost, I would now like to
thank the graduate brothers on the Board of Chap
ter Advisors for their outstanding involvement. In
the lost two years, graduate support is by for the
most improved area concerning participation, and I
think I can safely say it has been most important to
our current success. Another area of graduate par
ticipation which I think will insure continued success
in the future is the recent election of Scott Jockmon
OS Purple Legionoirre.
While Scott and the mem
bers of the BCA ore al l exceptional individuals, it
should be remembered that Lambda Nu can never
have too much graduate support. "Phi Gamma
Delta is not for college days alone" is something
always learned by the undergraduates but seem
ingly not remembered by a lot of graduates. The
brothers and I here at Lambda Nu invite any and al l
graduates to come share in our success . . . (you
can only moke us that much more successful!)
Fraternally,
Curt McConnell '83
During recent years here at Lambda Nu, those
in close contact with the Fraternity hove witnessed
and been a port of the current success of our chap
ter. This success con be attributed to many things
ranging from individual achievement to chapter
cooperation but I think the vital element involved
has been participation; I think we will all agree a
fraternity is nothing without it.
Within our chapter, improved participation has
been evident in every aspect available. Every
brother is actively involved with at least one com
Phi Gam's Out On Campus
This year has also been a very busy one for us
out on campus. With AAaynard Krantz finishing his
second term as Nebraska Union Board president,
he is the first person to ever be re-elected for a
second year as president. This along with his
many other activities helped him to be nominated
and chosen by the UNL Greek system as the Senior
mittee, so our committee system is working effec
tively. There is renewed concern among the brothers
for the building itself, so the Fraternity's physical

structure is in its best shape ever. The chapter as a
ond year on Judicial Board of which he also served
whole has realized the importance of on outstand
ing scholastic program. We hove shown a marked
improvement in grades as Phi Gamma Delta has
serving his second year on the Student Advisory
moved into the top third among UNL Fraternities.
Finally, I feel I should mention participation during
summer rush.
It has been said that rush is the life-
blood of any fraternity and ours is no exception.
While we hove hod good participation in the lost
two years, there is always room for improvement.
It is always impressive to a rushee to see graduate's
at a rush party. While we realize that this isn't al
ways possible, providing our rush chairmen with in
dividual names of graduating seniors is helpful. We
must all remember now is the time to participate in
rush and not when summer is over and it's too late.
Graduating senior Scott Glup is finishing his sec

has recently been chosen for a two year term on
the Nebraska Union Board. This board is made up
of ten students and three faculty members to work
with director Doryl Swonson on how the two student
unions should be operated. Dan Parsons stays busy
with singing performances on the Nebraska Mens
Glee Club which he has been an active member
now for two years. Chris Ingrim is on the Greek

planned for us the week of April 12.
