at the time, working in the office of the Dean
of Men under Dean Tate. Since that time, it
can easily be said that Bracewell has been an ]
important influence in the Kappa Deuteron
chapter.
Since his official installation in 1968,
Bracewell has devoted much time and effort
to the chapter and the fraternity. He served
as section chief for several years, chapter advisor for several
years, and most recently, as education director for the
fraternity. Bracewell also currently serves on the Board of
Chapter Advisors in addition to his duties as the Purple
Legionaire.
"We do not set out to select a certain type
of person on the basis of'He can help us win

Bracewell stated, "but by seeking to pledge

some things we did not set out to achieve, the
by-products of Cheney Gups, athletic
trophies, and scholarship awards."
Asked what he, as a graduate brother of
fifteen years, sees as the most important
aspect of the fraternity is, without hestiation he stated,"The
brotherhood. That, and the genuine expression of love for
one another in various ways. Expressing those things to one
another takes courage."

Few people would disagree with these ideas. Kappa

these ideas embodied in the person of Bill Bracewell. He.and

great feeling I get from hearing from the grad brothers."

knocking on dorm doors and making
a dozen phone calls a day.
Is this difference recognizable in
the men we pledge? Probably not,
until you see where these men's
hometowns are: mainly the Atlanta
metropolitan area.
In speaking with several "older"
graduate brothers, I find they do not
think this is healthy, and I would have
to agree. The point of this article is:
we should avoid tunnel vision and
look to the small towns.
Although many of you live in the
metro area, you still have contacts in
more areas than the undergraduates
do. Every person who has been
recommended to the chapter by you
since I have been here has been
contacted at least once. You know
what type of men we are looking for:

Winter rush will be here soon and

important. Only about ten percent of
our brotherhood of eighty plus
brothers come from towns outside of
the Atlanta area. These brothers
bring with them ideas and beliefs that
are healthy for the chapter and
receive much attention.
Let us hear from you. If you would
be interested in using your home for a
small graduate/rush-related function
sometime, let us know now so we can
plan.

Chemical People
Community Relations Lends a Hand
by Dan Ragland
The community relations committee has attempted to get
the Kappa Dueteron Chapter more actively involved in
University and Athens community concerns and projects. Its
primary undertaking for Fall quarter has been helping to
sponsor the "Chemical People" in Athens and specifically a
location on campus. The Chemical People is a national
movement headed by Nancy Reagan to organize local
communities to fight teenage drug and alcohol related
problems. All across the nation, local civic organizations will
provide locations for concerned citizens and parents to
watch two special hour-long documentaries on over 200PBS
stations. A panel of Athens teachers, doctors, and law
enforcement officials will answer questions after the
documentary along with representatives from the Chemical
People. Their desire is to create task forces for each area
high school and the University of Georgia to begin
formulating efforts to combat this growing national problem.
Members of Phi Gamma Delta have put over 100 posters
around campus and will participate at the two programs by
passing out literature and helping to register individuals
showing an interest in being
on a task force. Some

for rush and have kept it looking good throughout the year.
Football season, rush, homecoming, and Tyrant's Ball all
found the house looking "the best it has looked in years"due
to the efforts of undergraduates, graduates, the BCA, the
House Corp., and the new pledges.
In addition to the improvements in the house, most of the
apartments have seen great improvements. Even 6-A
(nicknamed East Beruit) is looking good now. Five of the
eight apartments have been recarpeted by their residents
and most have also been repainted.
The undergraduates are all quite proud of the house's
"new look" and we hope that the next time you are in town
you will come by and see how your house and old apartment
have changed. If you do, wearesureyou will be as proud and
excited as the graduates and undergraduates who have been
working so diligently to give the Fiji House a clean, new look.

Walter Short wanted to make a deal with Doug Orr. He wanted to borrow brother Orr's lavalier to see If his
girlfriend, Linda, would take it. If she took the lavalier, he was going to pay $7.00 for it, otherwise, brother Orr
could have his lavalier back.
Charles Cone got a rather unique shut-down.Seems a date for Saturday night went and got married Friday
night.
"
Here's a little something about of Charles Harmon's stay in the infirmary. It seems that the nurse came into
the room to take a urine specimen, but due to low tanks
brother Harmon could not produce. Trying to help by
coaxing, the nurse pleaded,"Oh come on, can't you tee-tee
for me?"
How about the time several brothers spent the night in a
boathouse at the Fiji Island party? During the course of the
evening, the conversation revolved around ghost stories due
to lightning and thunder produced by a nearby thunderstorm.
Soon the stories got to be too much for brother Mike Jones.
