TslpAsked for 1959-'60 Rush Program
December, 1958
Dear Brother:
As you know, it is time for us to start thinking about our coming
fall rush program. We are therefore starting to contact our rush
prospects.
Our past year's record on campus has been excellent. Eleven of
our seniors were tapped for Gimlet, we were the leading "big" house
in scholarship, and our act was selected for Varsity Varieties, the
annual all-student variety show. We are very proud of this showing.
However, we must have good men to maintain our good reputation.
We are depending on you graduate brothers, at least in part, to
furnish us with the men who will keep Phi Gamma Delta on top.
Under the University's new policy, incoming freshmen are re
quired to supply their campus address before they receive final
acceptance to Purdue. This has caused a sharp decrease in the num
ber of men going through fall rush (there were only 250 last fall),
most of them signing hall contracts prior to coming to the campus.
I am sure-that you realize the amount of competition this presents,
with only 250 boys being rushed by forty fraternities.
We must reach the senior boys in high school early in the spring in
order that we may plan an effective rush program. Although we
learn of some good prospects from our own personal contacts, it is
from you, the graduate, that we must expect most of our prospective
rushees.
If you know of any senior in high school who is planning to enroll
at Purdue, or at any other college where we have a chapter, please
let us know immediately on the enclosed post card. We are looking
for boys who are high scholastically, well liked by their classmates,
and who you believe to be of Fiji caliber. We would like to include
these fellows in our spring rush as well as in the summer and fall
rush programs.
With your cooperation, we plan to keep Phi Gamma Delta on
top with an outstanding pledge class next fall. Included in this
issue of the Fiji is a rush information card; if you know of any one
please fill this card out and send it to us at once. Thank you for
your kind cooperation.
Fraternally,
Bart Nelson '60

On behalf of all the Purdue Fijis, may I extend warm and
hearty wishes for health and happiness to all Phi Gamma Deltas
during the 1958 holiday season and throughout the New Year of
1959.
At this time of year, as we examine our past year's accomplish
ments, we realize the value of aspiration to our ideals, regardless of
what degree of success we have attained in our various endeavors.
At the same time, we have the opportunity to plan ahead for the
coming year. While we realize that our accomplishments will never
be perfect, we may resolve to further improve our performance by
correcting our past mistakes. By doing so, we will realize at least
one ideal—that of everyone working together to keep Phi Gamma
Delta on top in the years to come.
Marry Christmas
Happy New York
