SIGMA MU SWEEPS ACADEMY
The Brothers attending the 18th Fiji Academy at Ohio State University in August were Paul Jonson (85), Kendall
Moore (84), Tod Siedell (83) and Jeff Zadroga (85). Sigma Mu received the Archon's Trophy for Extracurricular
Activities and the Brightman Award for Outstanding Graduate Relations. (Related story inside)

Among the many positive facts about our Frater
nity, one was evident at Ohio State and endorsed by
Phi Gamms from across the nation; Sigma Mu
Chapter exemplifies Phi Gamma Delta at its best!
Once again, "our Starkville men" brought home
nation and Canada. All national officers met during
numerous awards and established themselves as one
the Academy to discuss the State of Phi Gamma
of the top Chapters in the country. I am sure you all
share with me a strong sense of pride in our Chapter
and its accomplishments during the past year. Every
so often I meet Phi Gamms from other Chapters
Delta, and I can report that our Fraternity is in ex
cellent condition and positioned to meet the chal
lenges of the '80's. As many of you know, a new
headquarters building will he constructed in Lexing
ton, Kentucky, and the fund drive toward this goal
is well on its way. Programs initiated to eliminate
hazing and alcohol abuse among the ranks have
been successful in many cases. Our headquarters
staff is dedicated to improving the weak Chapters in
through business connections and other activities,
and most of them still comment on the excellent
reputation Sigma Mu has developed over the years.
These praises, awards and honors did not come to
our Chapter without the dedication and hard work

PIG DINNER UPDATE
Fiji Academy
The four Sigma Mu brothers who attended the
18th Fiji Academy at Ohio State were truly honored
to have the opportunity to receive both the Archon's
Trophy and the Brightman Award on behalf of our
noble chapter. The Archon's Trophy is awarded to
the chapter which has excelled the most in Extra
curricular Activities. The Brightman Award is pre
sented to the chapter best evidencing that Phi Garnma Delta "Is Not For College Days Alone."
Sigma Mu also received 3rd place in the Baker
Social Service Cup, Honorable Mention in the Orion
B. Cheney Efficiency Cup, and Honorable Mention
in the Riverda H. Jordan Bowl. The chapter salutes
the parents, graduate brothers, and friends who
helped us attain these tremendous honors. To you
we say "Thank You".

Pig Dinner will be held this year on February 11
at the Holiday Inn in Starkville. We are very pleased
to have as our guest speaker Mr. Fred Manske, Jr.
Fred is the Senior Vice President of Nationwide
Ground Operations at Federal Express Corporate
Headquarters in Memphis.
This year's Pig Dinner will be the fifteenth such
dinner at Sigma Mu. We are hoping that the tremen-dous success of last year's dinner will be an addi
tional incentive for graduates to attend the "anni
versary pig dinner" this year.
Graduates, if you haven't received your invita
tion yet, you should receive it soon. I would en
courage each of you to attend, and to contact your
fellow graduates about the dinner. Mark your cal
endars, and we'll see you on February II!

of many undergraduate and graduate brothers. For
those of you who have given time, advice and
money to make our Chapter the success it is, I say
thank you. However, maintaining excellence is not
always easy. Each year brings new challenges.
Though the Chapter is significantly different in
many ways than you knew it as an undergraduate,
Sigma Mu has carried on the initial ideals and be
liefs that our founders established 14 years ago.
Our Chapter needs the continued level of sup
port we have given, and more. The House Corpora
tion, BCA and Mississippi Fiji's need strong grad
uate support to maintain their success. If these orga
nizations are strong the Chapter will only benefit.
The Chapter House on Campus is a beautiful re
minder of what graduate support can do, but we

GRADUATE
1983 FALL GRADUATES:
The chapter would like to congratulate these
brothers on their commencement. Saying good-bye
to a group of men that have contributed so much to
Sigma Mu is very difficult, but we can be assured
that these brothers will equal or surpass their under
graduate involvement as graduate brothers. The
chapter extends its warmest regards to these bro
thers as they take this important step in their lives.
