NORRIS PIG DINNER
The annual Norris Pig Kinner was held
this year at the Trails on the evening of
March 24. Guests of honor included the
Grand Old Man Burr Swezey, speaker
Henry C. Ryder, a lawyer from Indiana
polis, master of ceremonies Jeff Cooke,
Jack Coffin, president of the House Cor
poration and Larry Lane, president of the
Alpha Graduate Chapter. After an invoca
tion, a fine steak dinner commenced.
Later, the traditional kissing of the Pig
was performed, anteriorly hy Burr Swe

Ryder then began his ccrmic and witty
address. He centered on the topic of
Purdue men whose initiative had taken
them far beyond rhe expectations of their
contemporaries, citing John Purdue and
David Ross as Prime examples. Spiced with
anecdotes (will we forget Ivan and Boris
in the Moscow Head?), he concluded with
the speculation that another John Purdue
may be among us, undiscovered; prompt
ing a bit of introspection on the part of
the
brothers.

The brothers then introduced, revealing
those who had come from Alabama, Wash
ington D.C. and Missouri. The 1973 pledge
class was introduced, including David
"Tiger" Salzman and Bill "No Action
Jackson" Becker. Brotiier Burr gave a
short address, thundering "fulfill your
financial responsibilities!" Joe Dewenter
reported favorably on the state of the
Chapter, which was followed hy the
awarding of the Silver and Gold Owl
Awards for 25 and 50 years with the chap
ter, respectively. The awards were made
hy Gary Warren, whose planning and
work, together with Marty Pickett, was
responsible for the success of the dinner.
A highlight of the awards was Morgan
J. Burke's receipt of the Burr Swezey
Award, given to the outstanding graduating
senior for scholarship, activities and house
participation. He was the first recipient
since Tim Foley in 1970. Jack Coffin

NEW CLASS INITIATED
Tuesday night March 20 ended the pro
bationary period for 25 junior actives, as
the 1973 pledge class became active mem
bers. Representing a variety of back
grounds and interests, this group comes
from all sections of the country. One of
the main interests of this class is athletics.
The day after initiation, two of the mem
bers left for the NCAA swimming nation
als in Tennessee. The varsity track and golf
teams also have members of the class of
'76. To add to the deversity of this group,
one is a father. Mr. Thomas Morrissey
joined the new initiates along with his
twin sons Pat and Mike. An older son.
Jack, is also a Fiji ('73).
Guests witnessing the hallowed event
included William Heath ('48), Father of
newjnitiate Will; William Barnes ('49),
father of new initiate Bill; Bud Vickery
('23), grandfather of new initiate Bill, and
Bill Cunise, a friend of Will Heath. Also
present were Bill Miller, section chief,
Jeff Cooke, Purple Legionnaire and Larry
Lane, president of the Alpha Graduate
Chapter. It should be noted that Bud
Vickery not only participated in his grand
son's initiation this year but 1973 also
marks his 50th year with the Fijis.
The impressive ceremony was marked
by it's solemnity and was highlighted by
the receiving of the Fraternity Pins. Add
ing to the occasion was the placing of the
25 new links on to the chain of the past
classes.

BOILERMAKER FIJI
The evening was capped off in the base

their thirsts. Also at this time, the new
brothers, remembering the wallops of the
previous days, traded swats with the
upperclassmen.
The class of 1976 includes: William
Barnes, William Becker, Jack Goris, Will
iam Heath, Douglas Hudlow, Arther Lorentson, Mike McCarty, John McClarty,
Mark McCoy, Kim McKee, Robert McIlihaten, Kenneth Mesker, Patrick Mor

the new construction over the kitchen to
be completed last.
RENOVATION OF LIBRARY
in the house, the brothers of Lambda Iota
voted early in the school year to initiate
some change. The television was moved
downstairs into the old study room and a
more stoic atmosphere was restored to the
"library."
After all, the brothers thought, "We al
