FIJI - - AN ENTIRELY NEW BEGINNING
At ths decision of ttie AltJttml associatio-n of the Omega Mu Chapter, the Iio'use
was closed as of the and of the fall aemegter, December 1973. It was the general
feeling of the association and of the General Headquarters that the Chapter, in
its present state, was imking little ItHprovement in the direction of finances and
increasing tba saeiab.ershlp of the Chapter.
Regretfully, they informed the member
ship that the bouse would close its doors for the spring semester,
Eaving accomplislisd this, the next step was to institute positive action in
order to reopen the Chapter for the fall semester of 1974 with an entirely new
Eteia'bership. Field Secretary Steve Area was sent by the General Headquarters to
direct tha restructuring^of the Chapter., He arrived at Orono on the 22nd cf
January and isEsediataly met with local graduates and various University Adminis
trators with tha intent of foriaulating specific short-term goals. These goals
basically encompassed the formation of a pledge class made up of man whose char
acter, scholastic standing and ambition were such that they would be able to suc
cessfully ravitalise the Chapter. The enclosed blue flyer is a newsletter used
for the purpose of Informing tha University of the situation.
As a result of three weeks of screening and interviewing of over 40 men that
ex-pressed an interest in Phi Gasnna Delta, 18 new pledges were eelected.
As is witnessed by the above description, these men are involved with various
other aetivitias within the University end their scholastic achievement is high.
With an overall average grade point of 3.04, they represent tije highest scholastic
standing of any fraternity on campus. The pledge program, -which is already under
way, will include gv^iieral refurbishing of the house. For the past weeks they have
devoted Sattirdeys to work on the house and the progress Is apparent. The new pledge
class is extremely enthusiastic and has well impressed all of tha alumni in the area
that have had the opportunity to meet them.
