\r\n-3PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Brothers,
Fall and winter terms'have been hard on the FIJI house this
year, nonetheless we are able to boast of several fine accomplish
ments. We have at the present time a pledge class promising a
great future for both themselves and the house, Thdy have been
extremely concerned with achieving excellence in all their projects
and their enthusiasm has helped to boost overall house marale
during a depressing winter term. From this class will emerge a
number of fine future leaders who will brighten the paths of Phi
Gamma Delta in the years to come.
Over the past year the chapter has tried to improve the state
of graduate relations.
Our work was rewarded by an excellent
turnout for Homecoming weekend.
There was a total of k-2 graduates
back for the weekend and their generous contributions totaled $5^0,
Based on this turnout and the favorable response to the publication
of our Alumni Directory, we are looking forward to one of the best
Pig Dinners ever. As I mentioned we published the Alumni Directory
late fall term and as a result have heard from a number of "lost^
Brothers" so we have included an appendix to the directory in this
Chi Tama,
Chi Chapter has also had its share.of problems, but for the
most part these have been limited to financial ones.
Rising costs
have hit hard with the biggest strain put on our kitchen budget.
Another financial difficulty that has plagued us has been a problem
of cash flow,
Chi Association voted last fall to establish an
emergency bank account that would bail us out temporarily from
financial obligations but as yet there has been no action to establish
the account.
The house is also interested in improving the appear
ance of our downstairs rooms, ' The costs of such improvements is
beyond the capacity of our tight budget.
It is in these areas that
alumni donations would be a major asset, since the collections made
at Homecoming and Pig Dinner usually suffice only to cover the
expenses of these weekends,
The house is looking forward to an exciting spring term, with
FIJI Island on April 18-20 and Pig Dinner on May 3« Our intramural
Softball team promises to have a winning season, following the
championship season of our soccer team last fall,
I hope you all will be able to attend Pig Dinner and if
possible FIJI Island,
Looking forward to seeing you here!
Fraternally,
Russell E, Torrisi
