KAPPA OMICRON CHAPTER
348 NO. 25TH
CORVALLIS. OREGON
FALL 1969
KAPPA OMICRON INITIATES TWO FALL TERM
Tom Emang, '72, and Roger Nibler, Oregon State professor, were initiated
October 20, 1969. Brother Emang, from Corvallis, was a 1st Lieutenant in the
Army in Vietnam before returning to OSU last spring to continue his education.
Brother Nibler, who teaches business administration on campus, became
K. O. 's second faculty initiate. The only other man to rate this honor was F. A.
"Doc" Gilfillan, '18, dean emeritus of the school of science and acting president in
1940-41. Brother Nibler is a 1963 Oregon State graduate.
PHIL WILLIAMS VISITS CORVALLIS
Phi Gamma Delta's 50th field secretary, Phil Williams (Oklahoma State '69),
counseled with the cabinet and committee chairmen during his visit October I6-I8.
Arriving on Thursday afternoon, Phil managed to add valuable suggestions to the
chapter before the weekend "set in."
OSU BAGS AWARDS AT ACADEMY
Oregon State's Fiji chapter was awarded 2nd place in the Owen Cup (scholar
ship improvement) and honorable mention in the Brightman Cup (graduate relations)
at the Fiji Academy held at Bloomington, Indiana, this summer.
The brothers improved from 24th to Ilth place during the 1967-68 school
year (the award is presented a year late due to the time needed to collect the data
from the various schools where there are Fiji chapters). During 1968-69 we re
tained our Ilth position (tied with the SAE's) out of 32 fraternities at OSU.
Largely due to our outstanding homecoming and Pig Dinner festivities plus
our Graduate Guide, we gained honorable mention in the graduate relations competi
tion. We hope to place in the top three this year. (See "Homecoming 1969", p. 4.)
MRS. HILL JOINS KAPPA OMICRON
Mrs. Evelyn Hill became our second housemother this fall. An Alpha Chi
Omega from Astoria by way of Salem, she has been a housemother at the University
of Oregon and the University of Puget Sound.

Mrs. Hill succeeds Mrs. Genevieve Anderson, who was with us since 1956.
Mrs. Anderson, recently featured in the Phi Gamma Delta, is now living at
745 Capitol in Salem, Oregon.
CONTRIBUTIONS TOP $275
Graduate support continues to improve since the last Beaver Fiji went to
press. Over $275 was sent our way to help defray the costs of our K. O. Graduate
Guide (alumni directory); for this we are sincerely grateful. Those graduate brothers
helping out include:

at this time, drop us a line and your name will appear in the next Beaver Fiji.
FIJIS TAKE TWENTY IN RUSH
Kappa Omicron awarded 20 new White Stars rush week. Included in this number
were some 11 "legacies," proving once again that Phi Gamma Delta is "not for college
days alone."
From Portland, we added Mark Schumacher, Dick Wiegand, Tom Burns,
Steven Stonecipher, and Bob Enna. Corvallis sent Andy Martin, Brian Tarrant,
Bryan Mingle, and Jim Robinson.
Bill Beckley hails from Bend, while Ron Wilson and Jim Hagen call Prineville
home. Greg Schuler and Dave Kallams come from Medford. Tim Drury is from
Cottage Grove, while John Wisti is from North Bend.
Scott Bailey is from Camas, Washington; Phil Lynn is from Sacremento,
California. John Nevers is from Spokane, Washington, and Judd Webber is from
Marshall, Texas.
Hagen, Kallams, and Wisti are Oregon all-state wrestlers and should do well
for Dale Thomas' Beaver matmen. Webber is currently running for vice-president
of OSU's freshman class.

Robin Thomas, '71, headed up the rush program this year and did a fine job.
Brother Thomas will continue as chairman during the fall "informal rush" period
and his successor will be named early winter term. It's never too early to tip us
off about rush prospects in YOUR area.
HOUSE GETS NEW PAINT JOB, FENCE
During the summer months, brothers Bill Graham, '70, and Tom Emang, '72,
added a fresh coat of paint to the 25th street side of the chapter house, which it
sorely needed. Also, through the K. O. Association, we tore out and replace the
cyclone fence along the alley, quite an improvement over the old mess.
FIJIS STRONG ON CAMPUS
Phi Gamma Delta continues its leadership in key campus positions. Ken Ross
returns as vice-president of the student body in addition to his numerous engineeringrelated activities. Chris Drury is on the IFC Judicial Committee, as well as
sgt-at-arms of the senior class and business manager of the University Engineer.
Bob Tomasovic, 3rd nationally in AAU wrestling, is sgt-at-arms of the
junior class, while Robin Thomas is on the Homecoming Queen selection committee.
Brother Thomas may wind up tapping Denise Blais, Alpha Phi, and Fiji
candidate for queen, who is among only five finalists in that competition.
Larry Six is vice-president of Thanes (soph men's service honorary) and one
of five finalists for the title of "Joe College."
Ken Dobberpuhl will swing into action on the OSU varsity rugby eleven later
this fall.
INTRAMURALS LOOKING GOOD IN EARLY GOING
The Phi Gam swim team is only two dual meets away from an all-fraternity
^championship in swimming, while all golfers won their opening matches. Under
the direction of Jeff Martin, '72, the IM program continues to diversify.
The Fiji footballers were plagued by inexperience and finished out of the
money in the league. Coach Martin expects a heavy turnout for spring drills in
March, however.
GRADUATE NEWS LIMITED
We didn't hear too much from the older graduate brothers over the summer.
However, word of recent graduates has been received.
Bill Enyart, '69, and Jerry Belcher, '69 were recipients of $1000 NCAA
post-graduate scholarships. Brother Enyart is playing fullback for the Buffalo Bills
currently, while brother Belcher is coaching at Hermiston (Oregon) High School.

Brother Steve Preece, '69, is playing at the left cornerback position for t^e
New Orleans Saints.
Bill Main, '69, is still in school, playing his senior year for the OSU football
team.
Brother Main was featured on the cover of Street & Smiths College Football
Guide this summer and has been mentioned prominently for All-Coast and AllAmerican. Currently, brother Main is playing in the wingback slot and leads the
team in rushing and pass receiving in addition to being a standout on the punt
coverage team. The Beavers are now 3-3 for the season.

HOMECOMING 1969---BY LARRY SIX, '72
Dear Graduate Brother,
The day of the annual Fiji Homecoming function is near. This year the Oregon
State Beavers will take on the WSU Cougars on Saturday, November 15, in Parker
Stadium. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
As usual, after the game there is a Fiji alumni gathering. It will be held
from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Lum-Lee's Tea Room, 128 Third Street, in Corvallis.
There also will be the buffet dinner (the best in town) served at the house from
5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $2.00 per person.
Incidentally, there will be reunions for the classes of '59 and '64 that weekend.
Mason Williams and Jennifer Warren headline the concert at Gill Coliseum
Saturday night at 8:00 p. m.
We have enclosed a 3 x 5 card with this mailing. Would you please fill it out
and return it as soon as possible if you plan to attend the dinner? Your cooperation
is appreciated.
Our new housemother, Mrs. Hill, and the undergraduate brothers of Phi
Gamma Delta wish to extend to you the warmest of invitations. We hope it is pos
sible for many of you to attend.
Fraternally,
Larry Six, '72
Fiji Homecoming Chairman
