Ellis made clear at the January 28
meeting in Stillwatcr that the initial
step will be to acquire a lot suitable
for building witlr tire $40,000 in cash
and pledges. Help from National
HeadquiU'ters is expected to be in
strumental in canvassing the larger
cities of the state, but Ellis and tire
Oklahoma State Phi Gams are relying
heavily on volunteer support from
the smaller towns.
Tlrerefore, Ellis and Section Chief
Louis Trost have strongly urged that
everyone contact them—Joe Ellis,
115 NW 6, Oklalroma City; Louis
Trost, 1406 Camden Way, Oklalroma
City—so that definite support can be
lined up.
The chainnen all agreed tlrat it
vvould be necessary to contact all Fi
ji's in Oklahoma, since the young Ok
lahoma State chapter does irot even
have 10 graduates, and therefore
hopes that everyone will be prepared,
cooperative, and \ ery generous!

ber 17, in Stillwater visiting with the
brothers at the house. Later he re
presented Phi Gamma Delta and
spoke at the KA house during an ex
change dinner; each fraternity sent
a delegation of undergraduates and a
graduate brother to another frater
nity so as to make all gi'ceks more
aware of the entire fraternity picture
at OSU.
Ike has served Sigma Omicron as
legate to the chapter's founding. As
a past Archon, and officer of the Okla
homa City graduate chapter, he has
been very instrumental in the pro
gress of the OSU Fiji chapter. The
Phi Gams at 1224 salute Ike Smitli
and hope all the Fiji graduates in Ok
lahoma follow his helping example.
The editor of The Sigma Omicronical has invited me to occupy the editor
ial chair this month, which is indicative of a lot of courage on his part. Most of
us have, at one time or another, had a strong urge to writfi an editor with whom
we have taken strong exception to a particular issue. However, this is my op
portunity to express my views on a subject and I only hope that you will be
sufficiently motivated by what you read to write me and give me the benefit of
your thoughts on tire matter. My skin is thick so don't spare the invective.
Many of you have visited our house at 1224 University Avenue in Stillwater; more of you have not. The chapter has 60 active members and pledges,
which is an impressive growth record from the 15 men who were granted a
charter at tlie 1962 Ekklesia in Dallas. This kind of growth is the end result of
a lot of hard work by the actives in rusli, chapter house administration, and
academic pursuits. It's taken time and effort on their part and tliey responded
to the situation in an admirable manner. -At tliis point, we enjoy a good rating
on an excellent campus but the next question is "Where do we go from here?"
Nothing stands still, it either moves forward or backward and our chapter has
yet to take a step to the rear. A review of the balance sheet, and I don't mean
only the financial one, brings tlie picture into focus.
We have a group of fine young men wearing the badge or pledge pin.
Chapter affairs are handled by a capable and hard working group of officers.
Rush goes on all the time and a good job is being done in the classroom and
on the campus. We even have a little money in the bank and particuhupraise is to be given to Pat Gallagher, the flinty-eyed treasurer of Sigma Omi
cron for the fine manner in which chapter finances are being handled. The pic
ture is very rosy up to this point, but now let me acquaint you with tire debit
side of the ledger.
