And The Beat Goes On
The 1969 winter term rush program at Gamma
Phi reaped 13 new pledges: Frank Ahrenheld, North
Port, N. Y.; Tom Grennen, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Joe Griffin,
Southampton, Pa.; Tim Hartung, Jeannette, Pa.; John
Hoffman, Woodstown, N. J.; Wayne Munson, Saddle
Brook, N. J.; Bob Knechtel, Penn, Pa.; Craig Lyle
Bretch Heads New Cabinet
At a recent Chapter meeting, five highly quali
fied men took the reins of control from a cabinet
which will not be soon forgotten at Gamma Phi. The
administration of out-going President Ken Thomas
has set a precedent of efficiency and general excel
lence which will be difficult to equal. Tlte- cabinet

hill, Newtown, Pa.; and Keith Thompson, Norristown,
Pa. These new pledges add varying interests and
activities to the chapter and are sure to maintain its

ful administration. This new team, headed by Bill
Spring rush began the first week of the term and
produced excellent results. We added two new pledg
es and increased our spring pledge class to 16 future
Speer (Little Neck, N. Y.) as Treasurer, S. P. Claw-
brothers.
As new pledges begin, so do old ones terminate
their probationary period. Recently completing pledg
ing on April 8, 1969 and waiting to be initiated into
the brotherhood are; Gary Bretch, Berwick, Pa.; Vic
DePallo, Conshocken, Pa.; Gary Deuel, Owego, N. Y.,
Dave Freas, Springfield, Pa.; Larry Huston, DuBois,
Pa.; Dave Joyner, State College, Pa.; Paul Pasqualoni,
Cheshire, Conn.; and Dave Smith, Winsted, Conn.
Bretch (Berwick, Pa.), includes in addition Rob
son (Collegeville, Pa.) as Recording Secretary, Andy
Noble (Murrysville, Pa.) as Corresponding Secretary,
and Rocco Simonetta (Bethlehem, Pa.) as historian.
If the smoothness of transition from the old to new
administration is any indication, the affairs of the
Nittany Fijis are in competent hands for the upcom
ing year.
\r\nTHE FUND DRIVE
It is time to make a somewhat detailed report of the Fund Drive. The total is not what we had hoped
for, but what has been received is being put to good use in correcting the most obvious needs in furnishings
and repair. The total now stands at $22,881, with $20,601 in cash and $1,680 in pledges from brothers, and
$600 from parents and friends of the chapter.
Listed below are the 209 brothers who have donated as of June 27, the date on which this report was
submitted to the editor of the Nittany Fiji. The 46 names followed by an asterisk are those who gave the
exact amount suggested by the year-out-times-five-dollars goal for the respective years. Extra thanks go to
them and to the 77 brothers who found it possible to donate more than the individual goal, in which case the
parentheses include the amount given over and above the requested amount.
Changes in this list, including new names, and the addition of asterisks or parenthetical sums will be
made in a future issue, so think it over!

\r\nNittany Fijis Are
IM Champs—Again
For the second consecutive year, the Nittany Fijis
were awarded the E. C, BischofF trophy, which is the
highly coveted symbol of I.M. supremacy at Fenn
State. As usual we were given stiff competition from
the traditional arch rivals — Delta Upsilon and Phi
Delta Theta. As a matter of fact, at the beginning of
Spring term. Phi Gam was in third place — 260 points
behind front-running DU.
Fiji Tea Off
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, April 13, the
Gamma Phi's and their sister sorority. Kappa Alpha
Theta, successfully held a tea for faculty, friends, and
area alumni. The tea added a new dimension to the
Fiji social calendar and proved to be especially en
joyable.
House manager, Ray Tiley, and grounds man
ager Ken Thomas, proved to be capable leaders as
they directed the pledges in getting the house in ex
cellent condition for the event. In charge of refresh
ments, invitations, and name tags were Harry Winehofer, Ray Carinci, and Rocco Simonetta. Dr. and
Spring term began with competition in volleyball
and swimming. The volleyball team, led by captain
Tom Apple, fought its way to the finals. The swim
ming team, inspired by outstanding performances by
Jerry Schult7., Greg Edmonds, and Captain Tom
Bradley, brought the first swimming championship to
the lodge in over a decade. In the process, the relay

sport of the season, track, was enough to clinch it
for the Nittany Fijis. The final margin of victory was
100 points — quite amazing when you consider that
the Phi Gam athletes were given virtually no chance
of overcoming DU's large lead at the beginning of
Spring term. There is an oft quoted but nonetheless
true saying that can be applied to the Nittany Fiji
representatives, "A quitter never wins, and a winner
never quits." Congratulations to our WINNERS.
