Teddy Roosevelt was in the White
House, Czar Nicholas was on his throne,
and William "Abe" Diddell was initiated in
Phi Gamma Delta here at Psi. That was
1905. Mr. Diddell, class of '08, along with
his pledge brother Judge John W. Macy, is
Psi's oldest living graduate brother.

of his four years of boskeboll at Wabash,
the team collegiate record stood at 64-1.
The 1904-5 squad had a perfect season
and won the state championship. They
won the championship again in 1906-7,
when he returned to Wobash for the first
mous "Wabash Wonder Five", and it was

Surprisingly, it is not as a baskeball
for Wabosh it was even more than that; it
was "Abe Diddell" night. Abe Diddell is
distinguished in the annals of Psi not
merely as our oldest living graduate
brother, but for the honor he brought
to this chapter and this school. He has
continued to pursue that same remark
able standard of achievement throughout
his full 94 years.

preciation to Brother William Abe Diddell
for all that he has done to bring honor and
fame to Phi Gamma Delta.

After a semesters-long discussion and
debate over the potential merits of "man's
best friend", the chapter has officially
adopted a house pet. Thumper (name
subject to change), our new addition, is a
cross between a German shepherd and a
collie. She is still a puppy and was given
to the house by Greg Rose ('80). Right
now Thumper is getting acclimated to her
new surroundings and is spending much
of her time sleeping, but in a few months
we expect her to be a familiar part of the
surroundings and a handy deterrent to
pledge class pranks this fall.

ing other sports. This fall. Matt led the Fiji
cross-country team to a first-place finish
by winning the intramural meet in a time
of less than thirteen minutes.

Matt places a great deal of emphasis on
physical conditioning but the psychologi
cal aspects of athletics are equally import
ant to him. He feels that confidence is cru
cial to success and thus far he seems to be
proving his own maxim. The entire chap
ter is proud of "Longy's" dedication and
achievement and has high hopes for him
ot nationals. His performance has already
brought fame and honor to Wabash Col
lege and to the Fraternity of Phi Gamma
Delta.

HOUSE
IMPROVEMENT WEEKEND
The house is presently preporing for on
ombitious Spring cleon-up os House Im
provement Weekend opprooches. Friday
ond Soturdoy, Morch 23rd ond 24th will be
devoted to cleaning, pointing, yord work,
etc., OS the brothers toke port in this onnuol octivity. As in post yeors, this week
end promises to be o lot of hord work but
it should also provide o sense of pride ond
occomplishment os we see the results of
our lobor and the house in top condition.

ber of professors stopped by to tolk with
the new students ond to provide o few
helpful hints obout. Honors Scholors Tests
ond/or next foil's dosses. Most of the oct
ivity wos soved for Soturdoy night, how
ever, since our guests hod to be up eorly
for Soturdoy's test. Soturdoy night wos
