21st ANNUAL PIG DINNER
The 21st Annual Norris Pig Dinner ofSigma Mu
held on March 3 was a huge success. Although the
numbers were down from last year, the spirit of
brotherhood and fellowship was the best ever. Those
attending agreed that this year's Pig Dinner was the
best in several years.
Archon Councilor William BraceweU from the
University ofGeorgia was the keynote speaker, and
was well received by Sigma Mu. Brother BraceweU
spoke about the ongoing traditions of scholarship
and service by the undergraduates of Sigma Mu.
The Chapter honored Porter Bobinson as outgo
ing Section ChiefofPhi Gamma Delta. Porter had
served this position for eight years. Sigma Mu is
grateful for aU the dedication Porter has shown to
Phi Gamma Delta. The Chapter also recognized
Marc Anthony as Outstanding Graduate for the past
year. The award for the farthest distance travelled
was given to Curtis Bivens, who journeyed aU the
way from Citrus Heights, California.
Graduates and undergraduates alike enjoyed the
Sigma Mu famUy tree, which was posted this year.
Graduates especiaUy enjoyed the slide show put
together by the undergraduates, which featured
slides from every year of Sigma Mu's twenty year
history. The evening climaxed with the singing of
Phi Gamma Delta songs, the singing of popular
songs from the graduates' coUege days, and the
burial ofthe pig's head. For aU those in attendance,
the 21st Annual Norris Pig Dinner of Sigma Mu
will be an event long remembered.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A Match For The
Ken Graves Scholarship Fund
Several years ago Sigma Mu established the Ken Graves
Scholarship Eund to memorialize our deceased brother;
Ken Graves '76. Ken was not only a leader within the
fraternity but also on campus where he served as Stu
dent Association President. Each year Sigma Mu offers
a $300 scholarship to an entering freshman male chosen
by a committee of chapter members and the Purple
Legionnaire from nominations submitted by high school
counselors. Until the Scholarship Fund is built up suf
ficiently to allow us to use the interest, this amount is
currently being taken from the regular chapter budget
each year.
To date some $1500 has been contributed to the Ken
Graves FIJI Scholarship Eund, which is administered by
the Mississippi State University Development Founda
tion. Contributions are tax deductible. Now Sigma Mu
has recieved word through the Development Founda
tion that Michael Graves, Ken's brother; of Raleigh,
North Carolina, has agreed to match dollar for dollar
any contributions made to the Fund in 1990. This is
a generous offer and one which can certainly assist us
in attaining the $15,000 necessary to endow the scholar
ship permanently and increase it.
We hope that all of our alumni will consider making
a contribution to help us secure as large a match as
possible. Contributions should be sent to the MSU
Development Foundation, P. O. Box 423, Mississippi
State, MS 39762, and designated for the Ken Graves FIJI
Scholarship. Be sure to indicate FIJI as the family has
endowed another scholarship for Ken in the College of
Engineering.
Mu. It has been a very productive and successful year

GRADUATE DAY
m
The 2nd Annual Sigma Mu Graduate Day will be held
on September 22, 1990, in conjunction with the MSUUSM football game. This is a day the chapter has set
aside to welcome graduates ofthe chapter back to MSU.
This is being done apart from Homecoming because of
the conflicts in the past with Parents' Day and other
events that are scheduled around Homecoming.
Specific details about events are forthcoming. If you
plan to be in Starkville on September 22 for the MSUUSM game, plan to arrive earlier in the dav and join us
at the house for a day set aside for you - the graduates.

FIJI ISLAND
g
FIJI Island proved to be an exciting, fun time for
Sigma Mu. On Thursday, the marriage ceremony
was held with Andrew McNeil serving as FIJI King.
The Bedrockers entertained the chapter Friday
night, despite the inclimate weather. However, the
weather cleared for Saturday and the brothers en
joyed an afternoon of crawfish and Reggae music,
Saturday night. Upsetting the Mothers capped off
the day with an excellent performance. Finally,
Sigma Mu's own band. Indigo Mood, played Sun
day afternoon to end the weekend. Many rushees
,^^came and enjoyed the festivities.
