Reachina New Levels of
brothers
Greatness
By Jonathan L. Penn '92, Chapter President
The new school year got off to a flying start when
Omicron Deuteron successfully initiated 24 eager men as
pledges.Led by the efforts of rush chairman John Pritchard
'92, Ohio State Fiji saw one of its strongest rushes in the
past few years, despite the decrease in numbers of men
going through rush.
The exciting spirit continued to grow around the Fiji
house as we were paired with the ladies of Tri-Delt as
homecoming partners. This was a long-awaited reunion
since we were last paired alnx>st four years ago.
Fall 1990 ended with the election of the new cabinet of
officers. Six very enthusiastic men are now filling some very
big shoes left by the previous cabinet. The new officers
started 1991 off strong by having a cabinet retreat with
Purple Legionnaire Kameron de Vente'86. At this meeting,
over 100 obtainable goals were established which the
cabinet is working hard to achieve. With our determination
and strength, these goals should all be reached.
In addition to an early cabinet retreat, 1991 has been full
of outstanding effort by the OSU Fijis. In keeping with the
tradition of strong community service. Philanthropy Chair
man Dan Sennsenbrenner'92 has been working hard to
keep the community service trophy that we regained last
year. This year, our annual Queen of Hearts pageant will
have a new twist: The winner will receive a $1,500
modeling contract. The prize has boosted interest in the
pageant and total money raised is estimated to exceed
$5,000. Also, the brothers have been collecting Big Bear
grocery store receipts and donating them to the Indianola
Elementary School to help them get computers through a
program called "Apples for Students." So far our efforts
have been quite rewarding as we have raised over$6,000
in receipts.
The new year is looking very bright and with continued
support from our House Corporation, BCA,and the mem
bers of the chapter itself, Fiji will thrive and reach new
levels of greatness.
Homecoming 1990
A fun-filled weekend for everyone!
By John P. Altfere '93, Corresponding Secretary
Homecoming weekend, October 26-27, 1990, was a
fun-filled event for everyone. The festivities began on
Friday night with our annual Pig Dinner, which was held at
DaVinci's Ristorante. Former OSU and Cleveland Brown
football player Dick Schafrath was our guest speaker. We
were pleased to have well over 100 graduate brothers in
attendance and we hope to see even more next year!
Paired with the Tri-Delts for homecoming week, we
constructed a float for the parade. The float had "Fiji" and
Delta Delta Delta imprinted on the side of it, along with our
depiction of Brutus Buckeye kicking a field goal on the top.
As for homecoming day itself, the day started out with a
pre-game brunch at the house. It was great to see some of
the graduate brothers mixing and having a good time with
the undergraduate brothers. The festivities continued at
Ohio Stadium where the Buckeyes crushed the Golden
Gophers of fulinnesota 52-23. This menrwrable week was
capped off with a homecoming dance at Jackson Lake.
