Dear Graduate Brother,
It's been a while since our last meeting, and the Rho
Alpha Chapter hopes all's going well with you.
If you have not received word from us yet, April 13th
is the date set for Pig Dinner this year /"so be sure to mark
this date on your calendar if you plan to attend.
Enclosed is the history of our chapter for the month of
January. As you see, we have been quite active this new
year and hope to maintain our high level of spirit and
brotherhood throughout 1991.
We are having two rushes this semester in order to
attract a large pledge class to fill the shoes of our
graduating seniors. Unfortunately, our rush budget is
limited - therefore, even though we are currently setting up
dates for hot dog sales and other fund raising activities, a
contribution of $10 - $15 would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, best wishes for Valentine's Day and Easter, and
hope to see you at Pig Dinner.
Sincerely Yours,
John C. Hepler
President

\r\nHistory of Rho Alpha Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta
January 1991
The new year started off in our Chapter with lots of
hard work and quick change. The day before classes started,
a chapter retreat was held at a neighborhood recreation
center in which our brothers sat down and outlined most of
our goals this upcoming semester. The first week back in
school was packed with excitement and surprise. The new
officers of 1991 were installed: John Hepler as President,
Mark Mennuti as Treasurer, Alvln Chao as Recording
Secretary, Dave Harrison as Corresponding Secretary, and Ted
Kraje as Historian. This week was also the last week of the
Beta Deuteron pledge class period. That Friday, three
quality brothers were initiated into our Chapter: Walter
Bayne, David Green, and Bart Warner. That weekend we
traveled to the University of Pittsburgh for our semester
pledge class trip. Highlights of the trip included some
reckless driving, a mad and almost fatal pillow fight at
three in the morning, crazy exploits with a video camera,
and a quest for the value of a dollar in the Red Light Zone
of Pittsburgh. The next weeks went by smoothly as the new
cabinet installed the committee heads: Bobby Stephenson as
Pledge Education, Craig Swanner as Campus Events, Greg
Rappaport as Social, Patrick Reilly as Graduate Relations,
John Vert as House, and James Hamric and Brian Oakes as
Rush. The spring rush, constantly interrupted by updates in
the War in the Gulf, went fair and we gave bids to five good
men.
Our name continues to grow as our community service
has extended to the Red Cross Bloodmobile and reserving Main
Street with the Adopt-A-Spot program. An attendance pool
was formed for this semester and seven of our brothers
signed up for the challenge. Unfortunately, brother Mike
Kurd had to leave us temporarily, but a student from DePaul
University, by the name of David "Scooter" Smith,
transferred to Tech on a baseball scholarship and might
affiliate with us. Our basketball team looks strong under
the leadership of a few of our seniors, and this year we
could possibly make it to the playoffs. Super Bowl weekend
brought graduate brothers into town and between poker games
and bowls of chili we managed to see the Giants scrape by
the Bills 20-19. This long month ended with the brothers
studying away to survive the first rounds of exams here at
Virginia Tech.
