PI SIGMA
RECOGNIZES PAST
FIJI LETTERMEN
FEBRUARY 17,1968
mm
This year, Pi Sigma chapter will honor Fiji varsity
lettermen of past seasons at the University of Rttsburgh,
showing them recognition for their successes in athle
tics. Over sixty Brothers of Pi Sigma chapter have at
tained atheltic honors in the past fifty years, proudly
represen ting Panther teams in football, basketball,
track, baseball, swimming and other varsity sports. The
festivities will take place at our annual Norris Pig
Dinner on February 17, 1968.
Highlighting the program, will be special guest
speaker Dr. Daryl Lewis, current coach of the Pitt
freshman football team. Dr. Lewis, as you may remember
Gina
is the Fiji football star who led the Panthers to both'
the Sugar Bowl, and the Orange Bowl before his gradu
ation in 1956. Our new and popular Section Chief, G.
Dixon Shrum, will act as toastmaster for the dinner;
presiding over a program that includes the traditional'
reading of ''The Exile's Toast" by former Section
Chief, our much admired and remembered friend and
councilor, Bill Morris. Closing out the program will be
the presentation of the Golden Owl awards to the initia

ted class of 1918.
Once again, the Dinner will be held at the elegant
banquet facilities of Stouffer's Restaurant in Oakland
The bar opens at 5:00 p.m., and dinner should start'
about 6:00 p.m. After the dinner, all Brothers are cord
ially invited to a cocktail hour and social get-together
at the Chapter House. This will provide an ideal oppor
tunity to meet and acquaint yourselves with the mem
bers of the active chapter, and to renew past Fiji
memories.
The Brothers were heartened and happy to see the
unusually large graduate turn-out at last year's Fif
tieth Anniversary Norris Dinner. It was a huge success—
because of you, our alumni. More important, it was a
good time for all attending, as will easily be remembered
by those still at -the House in the wee hours of the
morning.
Norris Dinner is the best time for Fiji alumni to
get together; to reminisce, and to share some time with
the undergraduates. The Dinner is for YOU. Please
make every effort to attend. It should be another en
joyable and memorable evening - February 17, 1968.
Whether performing her duties as a nurse, directing
a play, or simply strumming her guitar by the fireplace
in the Fiji House, Pi Sigma's Sweetheart for 1967—68
IS quite at home amongst any group, and is certainly a
joy to i^ve at our own social functions. She is Miss
Negina Fusan or Dorseyville, Pennsylvania, Gina grad
uated from the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing,
where she was active as a Senior Councilor and took the
ime to direct their annual variety show. Now, she has
recently added on to her heavy workload in the Obstet-
rics department at West Penn, by enrolling in the School
of General Studies at Pitt.
Aside from her busy work schedule, Gina shows
ot course, in her pinmate. Brother J oe Stiger. Luckily

for all of us at Pi Sigma, he brings her over often. Gina

B" LEAGUE CROWN
Fijis at Pitt are making a strong come-back in intra
mural sports this year, much to the relief of sports chair
man, Don Yahrling. With almost one-half of the sports
completed, Pi Sigma ranks third overall in^their respec
tive league. This rise in the Fraternity
B League
standings after an undistinguished showing the past
year, has come about through sorne noteworthy individual
efforts, as well as plenty of spirited teamwork.
After a weak start in softball, our singles and
doubles tennis teams finished first and second respec
tively, to earn us an overall first place in intramural
tennis competition. Kenny Klucsor, not losing a set,
represented us in single matches, while John Bedzyk
and George Miller played in the doubles. Soon after,
our football team, captained and quarterbacked by Frank

but lost in the final play of the game, and settled for
third place over-all. Dean Coleman, Rick Reber, Frank
Diettinger, Jeff Devore and Harvey Taschner went unde
feated in "B" League to easily win this event.
HOMECOMING 1967
The prospects for this coming term look bright as
well. Included in the intramural schedule are such sports
as basketball, track, and swimming. Fijis on this cam
pus hold the record for the mile relay, and that same
team who set it in 1966, is still with us, led by (some
times) half miler. Ken Wise. In swimming last year,
Fijis took second place; including two firsts by Steve
"the mighty" Mausner, and all are returning this year.
It almost happened. . . . there was Pinochio grasp
ing onto the frail Syracuse raft, soon to be swallowed
by the overpowering Pitt whale —and for three and
one-half quarters of the Panther-Orangemen football
game that was the story. But the underdog Panthers
finally succumbed in the closing moments of an exciting

1967 Homecoming.
The theme for the weekend was "The Wonderful
World of Walt Disney." The Fijis and the sisters of
Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority built the mini-float pictured
above, "A Fairy Tale Come True." It placed fourth in
the competiUon, representing the efforts of some forty
Greek and campus organizations.
But no Fiji Homecoming would be complete without
the traditional buffet dinner and alumni get-together that

takes place at our House on Wallingford Street following
the game. The buffet is served by the mothers in our
Mary McCarty's chapter, and there is always plenty to
eat and drink for all alumni who wish to attend. Our last
gathering was no exception.
While it was not exactly "a fairy tale come true,"
this year's Homecoming was an exciting and enjoyable
one. . . -and maybe, just maybe, Pitt will beat Air
Force at Homecoming 1968.
