Fijis In Activities
When the spring semester came,
one wouldn't need to look far to see
Fijis again in the limelight. One of
the
most
outstanding
achievements
was the election of junior Stacy
Lankford as IFC President. Holding
another top cabinet position is John
King. John was elected as Men's
Executive in the Student Union. Both
men are hopefuls for Iron Keys next
year. We ai-e proud of the hard
work and fine showing they have
accomplished.
Five new Gimlets from Phi Gam
ma Delta were initiated this spring.
We had Boh Diilingham and Bill
Liher, football; Tom Combes, hasehall; Dick Hamhy, .swimming; and
Ron Rockhoid, Glee Club.
Skull

new Fiji initiates, with two of them
holding top offices. John Miller was
elected President of his pledge class
and Dave Hogg was elected Secre-
tai'y-Treasurer. John was selected hecause of his Student Union activity
and Dave for tennis. Joe Ladouceur,
swimming, and Tim Foiey, foothaii,
are very active in the organization.
Over ail it has been another good
spring for the Phi Gams.

soldier of the quarter for the Fifth U. S. Army at Ft. Sheridan, 111.
Lynch received the award for exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity in active military service.

the Army in November, 1966.
He is a 1961 graduate of Jefferson high school.
Washington, B.C.
June 10, 1967 —
Through the unequalled news-gathering facilities of one of the country's great metropolitan
newspapers, your reporter was fortunate enough to get the above advance copy of one of the most
newsworthy events of the twentieth century.
The story is reminiscent of that of a simple country boy from a humble home in Abilene, Kansas,
going to the United States Military Academy, climbing through the ranks to become Supreme Com
mander, Allied Forces in Europe, and later. President of the United States. Yes, Like Dwight D.
Eisenhower, Charles G. Lynch rose from limited noteriety in little Lafayette, Indiana, matriculated
as a froggie in the Halls of Lambda Iota, worked diligently to achieve the rank of Private, U. S.
Army, and has just been named Soldier of the Century. Messages of congratulation from all corners
of the globe are being heaped upon Private Lynch.
We all have heard those stories about what a wonderful insti
tution the U. S. Army truly is. Like one of its counterparts, it must
"build men" — just look at the material it started with in this
case! Could it be that this is the same roly-poly guy who occasion
ally visited 640 Russell and became somewhat famous for stunts
like 'skivvy' wrestling matches, going on stage with the glee club
wearing a boutonniere and bow tie made of toilet paper and - - -
written on the palm of his white glove, performing the lyrics of
"Ahab the Arab" (incidentally that great world peacemaker and
fellow Arab, Pres. Nasser has shipped Clyde the Camel to Private
Lynch as a gift in honor of his recent award), and being uncere
moniously lowered into a tub of icewater while without his trousers?
The rehabilitation of such a perverted mind is almost enough to
make one a believer.
In pursuance of the highest standards of excellence in news
repoi'ting, your reporter has placed an urgent wire to the Pentagon
questioning the authenticity of this report. Any further develop
ments will be published at once. If true, this report is unquestion
ably THE news story of the century!
