NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW INITIATES
As a result of hard work by brothers Tom Quinn '85 and Mike Lee '85 (Rush Chairmen) supported
by our Chi lota members, Pledge Trainer, Gary Voyda guided nineteen pledges through to initiation.
This olass marks the greatest Chi lota influx since the early '70s.

changes made last year are continuing under the new cabinet's direction.
Many thanks to the former cabinet and B.C.A. for a smooth transition. The
new cabinet is serious and ambitious In its efforts to lead Chi lota.
Weare proud ofour early accomplishments. Forty brothers participated
In an all-Greek Clean up of Champaign-Urbana. Chi lota is leading U of I
fraternities with an Aicotiol Awareness Program. We are the first fraternity
to join the BAACHUS organization and sponsor events to increase alcohol
awareness. Next fall a 10K Road Race is planned to raise money for the
Cancer Foundation. As a result of our progress, we intend to apply for the
appropriate awards sponsored by the International Fraternity.
Phi Gams are growing at Illinois. Eighteen of last fall's twenty-one man
pledge class have initiated. Along with the current spring class of four top
quality men, our numbers are swelling. Financially, this means Chi lota's

Increasing capacity and maintaining the house are two challenges
facing the Chapter, B.C.A. and House Corporation. Leaky roofs over two
rooms and the attic are causing water damage. Also plans and contracts
for an updated fire protection system are being evaluated. Thankfully, the

PIG DINNER '84—ONE OP THE REST
The beautiful weather of April
28th set the stage for one of the
best Pig Dinners in Chi iota history.
Forty brothers participated in the
4th Fiji Open at Urbana Country
Club. Don Fitzgerald (Neb. '58) took
low honors for the tournament.
The evening's festivities were
highlighted by Brother Dick Martin's
('55) address concerning the Illinois
football and basketball programs.
Al Triebel '37 received a Gold Owl
Award and Brothers Bruce Harrison
'62, Jim Russell '61, and Champ
Davis '62 received Silver Owl
Awards. A. B. Sawyer enthralled all

Clay Barnard is moving on in the
world of Phi Gamma Delta. This
spring Clay was appointed chief of
Section XXIII, taking over the spot
vacated by Aithen Riddle. Clay
served Chi lota as Purple Legion
naire for the past six years. His
worthy successor is B.C.A. Presi
dent, Bill Amacher '77. The Brothers
wish both much satisfaction in their

counselor, gave a very informative
talk on his experiences working with
drug abuse. His talk was especially
informative due to his constant con
tact

college
students

W.P.G.U.

—Athletic Report—
Spring semester has brought a
3rd place finish for the Fiji basket
ball team. The Fiji swept divisional
play by beating Delta Upsilon, Delta
Sigs and Betas twice. Going into
the playoffs undefeated, we had a
first round bye, then be Phi Delts to
get into the "final hour." Our season
ended in the semi-finals with a 36-
34 loss against ATO, who were the
eventual champions. "Satchel"
