Greetings from the Hut! As the new president of Beta Chi,1
realized titat 1 was stepping into a role that has been transform
ing over the past three years. The two presidents before me,Kvle
Yerk '96 and Fred Hertrich '97,saw a changing ffatemit}' st'stem at
Lehigh, with the implementation ofthe Greek Re\iew process and
BYOB social polic)'. They managed to keep focused and led the Hut
to extraordinary' levels. My plan is no different. We will cope with
die university policies as best we can, while continuing the tradition
of excellence that is synonymous with the Plii Gam name at Lehigh.
Widt a 2.75 house GPA,we continue the push for academic
dominance among Lehigh fraternities. As scholastic levels hold
strong, tite house still maintains an active social calendar with
numerous parties. Our social calendar will peak at the conclusion of
Greek Week on April 19 with our traditional Fiji Island party.
The Hut raised $6,000 for tite American Cancer Society over
Lehigh/Lafayette weekend this fall. In die second annual Lehigh/
Lafayette Rivalrt' Run for Cancer, the Hut came together with our
brotiiers at Lafayette by running the game ball from our house to
die Lafayette chapter die day before tite contest. Many thanks tct
chairmen Greg Boye '97 and Fred Hertrich '97 for organizing tlte
impressive event.
The fiftit annual Luigi Fiji will be held again titis spring. Brotiters
take pride in setting a pasta dinner to tite local community to
benefit the Children's Home of Easton. Strolling musicians and the
smells ofltaly fill tite house in what is fast becoming a Fiji favorite.
Our rush program ended early this February, aitd 1 am proud to
say that we have recruited 16 of die best men at Lehigh. Lhese 16

nten bring even more diversity to the Hut and will be the driving
force behind our ideals for tite next four years. 1 encourage everyone
to nteet these nten at this year's Pig Dinner on Saturday, April 26.
This event is a wondeiftil opportunity to come back to the Hut and
relive some of the "good old days." If you have any questions please
don't hesitate to call me at 610-758-0979.

Fijis Exercised True Brotherhood
On November 22
For the second year in a row,the brothers ofPhi Gamma Delta
at both Lehigh and Lafayette College demonstrated true
brotherhood as they ran the distance between the two rival schools
in an effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The
run took place on November 22,one day before the schools met in
the annual Lehigh/Lafayette football game.
The run, approximately eight miles long, began November 22 at
1:30 p.m. at the Beta Chi house and ended at Lafayette. Fijis from
Lehigh covered the first halfofthe run and Fijis from Lafayette
took over at the halfway point. Brothers were stationed throughout
the course at one-half to three-quarter mile intervals, ran one leg
and then handed off the game ball to the next participant.
"We take this run seriously," said Greg Boye '98, Beta Chi's
chair of the event. The Fiji Lehigh/Lafayette run raised $6,000 to
combat cancer.
Thank you to Lehigh University campus newspaper, the Brown
and White, which gave us permission to republish the article above.
