Taking Care of Old Greystone:"We Are Making Progress"
By GeoflFMynott'54, Trustee
As chair of the subcommittee of
building and grounds for
Bucknell University,I have
learned a good bit about
building maintenance and
budgeting for the same. It
probably doesn't come as a
surprise to many that it would
take at least a million dollars
today to replace such a beautiful
stone structure as our Greystone
Mansion.
Therefore, we have been
working hard with the money
raised in the "Campaign for the
Nineties" to put "our" house
back in the best possible shape.
Please recall, very little money
repaired, painted and
"squared," and they look
terrific. Living room furniture
was replaced with new chairs
and tables, and the furniture
was reupholstered with more
durable fabrics. Your Trustees
hired a talented local carpenter
to do much-needed repair
work over a five-week period
on the entrance hall walls,
kitchen ceiling, interior windows,
ufsstairs rooms and more.
So we are making progress in
getting back to where we all
want the house to be, but more
work still remains. Looming in
the near future will be roof
way! The right front deck was in
bad shape and was repaired. All
replacement, extensive paint
ing, driveway repair and much
plumbing work. If we establish

value ofthe house), we need to
set aside $20,000 per year to
keep up with wear and tear.
This we intend to do once we
are in total repair.
In closing, all the Trustees
would welcome our graduate
brothers back to Lewisburg to
observe the progress, and we
sincerely wish that you'll
continue to support our fund
raising, keeping Delta proud
and independent!

Christy Mathewson '02
FEATURED IN BuCKNELL WORLD
The July 1994 Bucknell World carried an article by Philip K. Eberly
about Christy Mathewson '02,famous pitcher for the New York
Giants and Phi Gamma Delta brother. The article credits Christy not
only with an outstanding playing record — "373 victories (baseball's
all-time highest); the fifth lowest earn run average (2.13); 345 games
completed out of 551 started (an incredible .789 percent); only 1.6
bases on every nine innings; and 2,502 career strikeouts that rank him
in the pitchers' top 20."— but also with reinventing the mostly badboy image that baseball players of that era had projected. Ofcourse he
is also the namesake for Bucknell's football stadium.
The Bisonhead room looks fantastic after summer renovations.
If you didn't get a chance to read the article, be sure to look it up. It
gives us one more reason to be proud to be a Fiji from Bucknell.
\r\nChapter Begins Productive Year, Will Focus on Delta Career Campaign
By Casey D. Galligan '95, Chapter President
Once again, the Delta Chapter
ofPhi Gamma Delta has begim
an exceptional year, continuing
our quest to excel in all aspects
ofGreek life. In the majority of
vital areas, the contributions and
visions ofthe members ofDelta
Chapter for the upcoming year
will make a lasting impression
on the university and the
Lewisburg community. The
cabinet has picked up right
where they left off last year,
entering this year planning to
build upon the firm foundation
laid by our predecessors.
Purple Legionnaire Stu Campbell '52(from left), House Corporation President Tom Baker '77
and Trustee Geoff Mynott'54 met with the undergraduate cabinet; Corresponding Secretary
Andy DeFaIco '95, Recording Secretary Pat RIley "95, Historian Matt Daley '95
and President Casey Galligan '95.
Internal chapter operations of
Delta Chapter remain the envy
ofmany houses on campus. We
have set lofty goals and objec
tives for the upcoming year.
Unparalleled athletic and campus
involvement,superlative faculty
and community relations, a
strong group of brothers and an
enthusiastic new pledge class as
well as generous improvements
to both the interior and exterior
ofthe house are some ofthe
highlights of Delta's past year.
Much of the work was a result of
the coordinated efibrts ofthe
brothers and the Delta Associa
tion. No other fiater-nity on
campus can claim such remark
able graduate support, and the
undergraduate chapter is truly
grateful.
The chapter was recognized
for its hard work last year by being
named the Most-Improved Chap
ter by Bucknell's Interfiatemity
Council. Both graduate and
undegraduate brothers worked
on campus and in the commu
nity to gain such respect.
This year we plan on maintain
ing our position by following
through on our Delta Career
Campaign. In this chapter
networking program, under
graduates and graduates with
can benefit from the exp>erience
ofestablished professionals.
This year will undoubtedly be
another proud one for Delta. We
hope all our planning early in the
semester culminates in successful
events. We look forward to
seeing many graduate brothers
common career choices will be
back at the Old Greystone
Mansion, not just at Homecom
ing but throughout the year!
