Fraternity has eyes set
on community service
by Jason Moss
Editor-in-Chief
The sign says "The International Fraternity of Phi Gamma
Delta...A Leadership Fraternity." What seperates Phi Gamm
from the rest of the houses on Greek Street is that one word;
leadership. That leadership extends to helping others.
This year Delta Iota has concentrated heavily on its community
service. Fall semester a total of 350 hours were accumulated.
"We feel that we are in such a fortunate situation that we have
not only the opportunity but the duty to help others in their situ
ations," said Andy Doonan, last semester's Community Service
Chairman.
Projects this school year have included a Planned Parenthood
book drive, parking cars at Nighteyes, Kid's Fest volunteer
work, a food pantry. Habitat for Humanity work, and hospital
woik.
"Being in a fraternity isn't all fun and games and at one point
we need to give back to the community," said present
Community Service Chairman Steve Carlson.
Carlson has led Delta Iota to 93 hours of service thus far this
semester. The next community service event is scheduled for
April 23 from 3-9:00 p.m. for Cystic Fibrosis. Carlson reported
that the chapter will have accumulated a total of 173 hours fol
lowing this project.
For further information about Delta lota's community service
or if you have suggestions for future projects please contact
Steve Carlson at 271-2155.

use E-Mail as a quick and easy method to
