This year the
active chapter is working
together with the S.S.
Chamberlin Association
with hopes of creating the
largest Pig Dinner in the
history of our fraternity.
This will be an opportunity not only to see the
strides our chapter has
made but also to have a
reunion with various fra-
ternity brothers you may
not have seen in quite
some time. We have established a Pig Dinner
Committee which will be
working all summer to
get ready for the upcoming fall.
The S.S. Chamberlin Association will be
sending you a separate
letter about our chapter
which you should receive
shortly. Many of you will
probably also be contacted by one of your old fraternity brothers about
attending this year’s dinner. Unlike years past,
this year the Pig Dinner
will be the primary event
in a Fiji Reunion weekend on campus. Here is

a thing or two about what
it truly means to be a Phi

great moment for the
Lambda Deuteron chapter. Going down to Kentucky really culminated a
year of improvement in
our house and from we all
learned whilst we were
down there, I’m sure that
trend will continue. The
freshmen seemed especially excited over the
prospect of being the focal
point of such a prestigious occasion. We were all

for their roles in organizing the trip
and making it all possible. Also to
all the alumni who came to support
Lambda Deuteron, thank you, and I
hope we have proven to you that the
future of our chapter is bright. At
the restaurant after the ceremony it
was great to see not only that alumni and actives could misbehave
equally but also that for the first
time in many years, it appears
there can be the reestablishment of
alumni connections to Lambda Deu-
teron starting with
the Norris Pig Dinner
this fall.
Thanks again
to all who continue to
support Lambda Deuteron.

Phi Gam’s Deliver with Dodgeball Championship
Even before the Intramural
Dodgeball Tournament began, “Fiji 2”
wanted and expected a championship. Consisting of purely the sophomore class (with a guest appearance
from Brinkman and others), “Fiji 2”
displayed a great combination of power and finesse in dismantling team
after team during the group stage.
Apart from a run in with a team of
freshman, one of whom had a cannon,
the team did not face challenging
opposition. One standout performance that must be mentioned is
Chris Tissue’s gunning down of 7
opposing players when he was the
only Phi Gam left to win the game.
Chris Tissue, silent assassin or sly
dog? Once the playoffs began we
knew the competition would be much
stiffer and expected more challenging
games.
Playing the freshman team
for a second time proved to be quite a
thriller. Down 2-1 in a first to three
series “Fiji 2” knew it had to come
together as one. Although everyone
played well, star performances by
Brett Castano, Brian Collins and
Chris Tissue deserve note. The Phi
Gam’s reestablished themselves and
went on to win the series in the deciding fifth game.
In the semi-finals of the tournament “Fiji 2” would face a tough
team made up of predominantly tennis players. Yet again the Fiji’s started out slow losing the first game.
However, following the theme of the
season the Phi Gam’s would soon regroup and dominate the remainder of
the series.
The final offered up an interesting match up. “Fiji 2” vs. “Delta
Chi”. LANDSLIDE. After coming out
in dominant fashion “Fiji 2” quickly
found themselves up 2-0 on the brink
of sweeping the championship. However, the team took a mental break
and before we knew it, we were all
tied up, 2-2. Obviously losing to D-Chi
in anything is unacceptable so the
team quickly refocused themselves
and closed out the deciding final
game.
With t-shirts in hand “Fiji 2”
posed for yet another championship
winning picture. Congratulations to
all members of the team, and I’m
sure we’ll be looking for a repeat next
year.

Soccer - Another Championship for Fiji
Intramural Indoor Soccer
brought about one of the most dramatic tournaments in recent memory.
Although the group stage did not give
the team too much to think about the
playoffs produced some exciting moments. In the first game of the season
the Phi Gam’s cam out blazing, blowing out the opposition 8-1. The second
game of the season matched the Fiji’s
up with Lambda Chi. Although the
game was close Fiji’s superior skill
proved too much, running out 3-2
winners. The final game of the regular season didn’t provide the team
with too many problems, dominating
Beta and winning 4-0.
The first game of the playoffs
matched Fiji up with one of the two
Sig Ep teams. The game was close for
a long time until we scored with only
about 5 minutes left. However, a persistent Sig Ep team forced a goal and
extra time. Goaless through the ten
minutes of extra time the match went
to penalties, with Nick Saper hitting
the winning penalty kick.
Moving into the next round,
Fiji faced the Club Soccer Team. Although the Club team displayed some
nice skill, the Fiji’s classic team style
was too overpowering and finished up
4-1 winners.
The final was truly a heavyweight match up. The two undefeated
teams Fiji and the other Sig Ep
squared off in what seemed like an
even match up. However, Sig Ep
came out flat and Fiji took control. By
halftime the game seemed over as
they were up 3-0. However, Fiji took
their foot of the gas and allowed Sig
Ep back into the game to set up a
climactic ending. With only minutes
remaining and Sig Ep piling on the
pressure the Fiji was desperately
defending a 3-2 advantage. Thankfully thanks to some stout defense and
great goalkeeping Fiji held on for a 32 victory and an Indoor Soccer Championship.
Congratulations to all those
who played on the team on the way to
the Championship, no matter what
role you played the fresh legs were
definitely appreciated. Also Nick Saper must also be mentioned for his
solid, if unorthodox, performances in
goal. Also Chris Geronimos and Lee
Miller-Finkle must be mentioned for
their physical defense that not only
kept the goals out but did a great job
of setting up the offense. Furthermore, Mark Brinkman, Chris Tissue
and Bryce McCintyre played solid yet
skillful soccer that ran our opponents
ragged.
Danny Martin and Jason
Hooper also played hustle roles for
the team, unsettling every opponent
with their quickness and unrelenting
pressure. Finally Brett Castano, Brian Collins and Matt Greenlees represented the Varsity contingent of the
team. Even though only two varsity
players could play at a time, the key
to the Fiji success was the consistent
play of any combination of players.
From top to bottom the Fiji’s simply
worked too effectively as a team to be
beaten and the championship success
was a deserved reward for the effort
put forth by all.

Lacrosse
It was another successful
season for the Phi Gam laxers. The
team finished the season with a 106 record, losing to defending national champions Salisbury State University in the second round of the
NCAA tournament. The men won
the NCAC conference with a 5-0 in
league record. Key victories this
season were: a 9-8 OT win against
rival OWU in the regular season, 10
-8 win over Kenyon for the conference championship and a 10-9 OT
win against OWU in the first round
of the playoffs.
The team was led on offense
by Capitan attackman Clay Wawner ’07. He ended the season with 13
goals and 11 assists and was selected for the 2nd team All-NCAC. Seth
Blaustein ’09 played in 8 games and
tallied 1 goal and 1 assist in his
rookie season.
Defensively Alex Baruch ’08
had another outstanding season in
goal, starting every game and finishing the season with a .541 Save
Pct. Earning All-NCAC honors for
the second time in a row. Taylor
Nissi ’08 had a solid sophomore season, at the long-stick midfield position. He scored 1 goal and had 35
ground balls, and earned 1st Team
All-NCAC honors. Eric Brown ’09
played backup goalie for the Big
Red, he played in one game this
season.
A Message from the 2006 Freshman
On behalf of the 2006 freshman class of Phi Gamma Delta, we
are honored to be part of such a
great tradition. Throughout the
second semester, our pledge class
was able to meet all of the active
members in the house, participate
in numerous activities and also
meet many alumni that came back
to visit. The exclamation part on
the entire experience came when
the trip to Lexington, Kentucky
took place. We were the first pledge
class to ever visit the headquarters,
and were lucky enough to participate in the traditional initiation
ceremony held right in the national
chapter room.
We realize how important
this fraternity is to so many brothers, and how exceptional it is to be
asked to be a part of this house. We
all look forward to playing an active
role in the fraternity and to continue the great traditions that it is
known for. Our class is excited to
experience all that this fraternity
has to offer at Denison, and also to
win a couple of intramural championships as well.
