Now well into our third year after reopening, the “new” brotherhood continues to recruit new members representing a
variety of campus activities, including
football, lacrosse, and soccer. Their understanding of the critical importance of
the “year-round process of rush” contin-
so special for you.”
The road back to prominence is still a
long one, and the support of all brothers,
current and alumni, is important now
more than ever. Changes abound at
Bucknell and throughout higher educa-
tion. Many aspects of our college and
fraternity experience are no longer the
case today.
But most importantly, while many
challenges and “growing pains” still
remain, I am happy to say that the core
character and personalities of these
young men intermesh well with our
proud tradition.
If you have an opportunity to return to
Lewisburg in the near future, please
stop by the Greystone. The undergrads
would benefit from hearing your stories
and knowing what made the Phi Gam
experience so special for you.
CHAPTER PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS
By: Patrick Joyce (2012) - Chapter President
It is safe to say that the Delta house has
officially regained its position as the
dominant house on campus. Increasing
its numbers to a five-year high,50 members has brought increased leadership to
the revitalized chapter. The new Cabinet’s first semester at the helm was
marked by hard work in giving back to
the community and educating the new
members on the five core values of
friendship, knowledge, service, morality,
and excellence.
Yet another strong class of 20 new members, ranging from football and lacrosse
players to on-campus leaders, sets the
future bar for the Delta chapter high. The
top tier Greystone mansion, hosted by
myself and team captain Sean Rafferty
(2012), was open for a second consecutive summer for the football team in
preparation of a promising season.
Throughout the fall semester, the Delta
house worked hard to meet its Plan For
Prominence requirements and continue
to enhance our image. The chapter was
able to complete over 600 hours of community service and generate more than
$800 in philanthropy in just a few short
months. The brothers coached the sisters
of Pi Beta Phi to a confident victory over
the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma in a
powder-puff thriller in which all proceeds
were donated to a local animal shelter,
Mostly Mutts. I am proud to announce
that Phi Gamma Delta now has representation on the IFC executive board with
Bill Prendeville (2013) as the new Re-
cruitment Chair. Moreover, Tim Bolte
(2012) was awarded Patriot League
Football-Scholar Athlete of the Year,
and Sean Rafferty (2012) and Frank
DeNick (2012) earned second team AllPatriot League honors for defense and
offense, respectively.
The brothers of the Delta house look
forward to the spring for chances to
increase our numbers by adding more
quality members and keeping the house
as full as it is now. The integrity of
Delta’s brothers is shown through their
continued hard work through community involvement in addition to athletic
and extra-curricular obligations.

NOTES FROM THE CHAPTER OFFICERS
“This semester has been a huge success for
our chapter. The new cabinet is making
big strides to continue to improve the fraternity. We managed to recruit a very solid
pledge class; a great mix of guys who are
dedicated to the fraternity and strive for
excellence in and outside the classroom.
The pledges are very motivated and eager
to get involved. There were several great
nominees during pledge class elections,
and many guys have stepped up as leaders
and have already had a great impact on
our chapter's success. We wrapped up last
semester with a 3.21 GPA and are striving
to improve it even more. In the Lewisburg
community, we are working hard to promote a positive image. We have been dedicating hundreds of hours to helping youth
in the Donald Heiter Center and are about
to kickoff the 2nd Annual FIJI Food Drive.
In addition, we have been helping with
various school-sponsored events that
benefit local charities and organizations.
Lastly, we have done a great job with risk
management, helping to build a positive
relationship with the school and the IFC.
The new cabinet is following the example
set by the older brothers and with the help
of the new pledge class, we are continuing
to improve the chapter.”

- Dylan Burke (2013) – Recording
Secretary
“The past year and a half has been a learning experience for every one of the members of the Delta Chapter. As a group, we
have been through good and bad times
strengthening the life long relationships
with our brothers while fostering a strong
bond with the values and traditions of
FIJI. The addition of another strong
pledge class has solidified our foundation
in the Bucknell community. The sophomore class has brought much to the organization, including several leaders,
strong academic awareness, and motivation to give back to the community. The
pledge class understands the effort that
has gone into bringing FIJI back to a respectable status on campus which is
something that all of the brothers appreciate.”
- Bill Prendeville (2013), Corresponding Secretary

bered. The coming semester will bring a
lot of new opportunities for us as we are
finally a Greek organization with three
full classes. I am so gratified to be part
of such a special community of young
men. We have an excellent pledge class
that includes individuals from a wide
range of backgrounds and, yet, together
we continue to grow closer to each other
and learn through each other. As Pledge
Class President, I have been exposed to
the work of the Cabinet and the members are teaching me the fine details of
fraternity life and what it takes to create
and maintain a brotherhood as close as
the one we have. I am excited to continue to work together with the Cabinet,
the brothers, and my pledge brothers to
grow closer in creating the brotherhood
that we all dream to be a part of.”
- Sam Philip (2014), Pledge Class
President
"Throughout this semester, my pledging
experience has created so many fond
and long-lasting memories. The 2014
pledge class is a group of enthusiastic
young men willing to go above and beyond all that is expected of them to ensure the continuing success of
this fraternity. With a vast range of people from a variety of sporting and geographic backgrounds, pledges and
brothers have been able to learn and
develop from the differing skills, experiences and backgrounds that each
brother contributes. It is clear that we
are continually looking to further our
positive contributions to campus
life with active involvement in academics, the community, and athletics. The
depth of this involvement has helped
develop a strong sense of brotherhood
and belonging within the fraternity. The
remainder of the pledge class and I are
proud to be associated with this historic
and reputable organization as we continue to learn the five core values –
Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality and Excellence."

Class Secretary

DELTA ASSOCIATION MESSAGE
By: Peter Cook (1992) - Delta Association Board Member
How much is/was your FIJI experience worth to you? Your honest answer to this question has never been more important!
As you have already read, Delta Chapter is on the rise once again. We are growing steadily and attracting some of Bucknell’s finest
young men. And to keep our momentum going on a rapidly changing campus and college environment, we need your help.
•
The University still holds a $11,000 (approximately) mortgage on the house. Upon paying off this mortgage, we will be the only
fraternity not owned, in some capacity, by the University. This must be a priority.
•
Bucknell is moving ahead with its plans to build new student and fraternity (affinity) housing on its (relatively) newly purchased land behind TKE. KDR and Lambda Chi will be the first to relocate. http://www.bucknell.edu/x72320.xml At some
point, the rest of the University owned fraternities are due to follow.
The Delta Chapter must have the financial resources to enhance its ability to attract leaders and preserve its independence from the
University. Only our graduates can enable this to happen. Please offer your generous support today using the form on the back.
