of the Delta Xi Chapter of the Frat.ernity of Phi Gamma Delta at the Uni
versity of California at Derkeley. It
seems to me appropriate at this time
to express the gratitude of the pre
sent active chapter to all' those re
sponsible for that event two years ago
and for keeping it going.

This year's Big Game, the seventy-
ninth renewal of one 'of college foot
ball's greatest rivalries, meant more
to a relative small number of Fijis
than simply a chance to come back to
root for their old college colors. It
meant a chance to return and see
the
team they 5)ent their fall afternoons
with. This small number of men can be
called the Goluen Bear Fijis,'

Other Fijis on the '51 Bears were Ed
Bartlett at end, Ralph Kruegar at
tackle in addition to Pete Mering and

Though the records of who all the
past Golden Bear Fijis are are a bit
sketchy, the Norris Fiji would like
to tell the story of those we do
know of in this special tribute art
icle.
Our oldest records led us to the
1931 Big Game and a quarterback named
Ed Kirwan, Kirwan rallied his Golden
Bear team to a 6-0 shutout over the
Cardinals to procure for the Gold and
Blue what would be their only Big Game
win between the years 192^ and 1935.

many to be the most dramatic Big Game
of all. The Bears won it 15-1^ but only
after they had stopped a last minute
