The Epsilon Lambda Chapter will
be holding the 18th Annual Norris
Pig Dinner this term. The dinner
that will be held in memory of Frank
Norris (Calfornia '94), will be held
at Alex's Restaurant on Michigan Ave
just east of the Capitol Building.
The date of the Re-union of young and
old Fiji's will be Saturday, March 5
from 12:30 till 4:00 FM.
The Chapter is more than proud
to have William R. Doerner as our
most precious inheritance, the
guest speaker at this festive ocas-

After the untimely death of
Frank Norris in 1902, cutting short
a promising literary career, it was
most fitting that this annual feast
Dinner
should be dedicated to him and that
the custom should bear the name of
the distinguished author.

a half century.
Any well trained neophyte can
tell you the story of the origin of
the fete so widely observed in Phi
Gamma Delta, but for those who are
rusty in fraternity lore, let us re-"
peat it:
At the class day exercises at
the University of Calfornia in 1893,
the dispensator, Ralph Hathorn (Cal
ifornia '93), took occasion to
rap
the Dekes and the Betas who had mon
opolized the glee club for the past
I year.
The stunt consisted of bringing
on the platform a barrel labeled "U
of C. Glee Club," tied with a cord
symbolic of the strangle hold estab
lished by the two rival societies.
To complete the figure , out of the
barrel tumbled a squealing pig-- a

On May 18,1893, the tribesmen
gathered in the lower regions of the

Winter term sports the Boor's
of 239 came into the scene with
great optimism.
We trail first
place by just 79.5 points in the
all Sports Trophy race. Winter
term sports features Basketball and
Volleyball as major sports with tab
le tennis, hand ball, and swimming
falling under minor sports heading.
Basket ball started off pro
mising as the Fiji squad slaughtered
Fsi Upsilon 49 to 22, featuring the
awesome starting five of Mike Romanowski at center, Jim Freeman and
Randy Strand at forwards, and Marty
Metzger and Dan Deane at the guards.
In the second game of the season Jim
and Randy fell to knee and ankle in
juries as the squad lost to Theta
Chic, The only thing to look foirward
to is the playoffs and that our
starters get healthy for the big
games.
In volleyball our record is 1
and 3 loosing the first match to
Lambda Chi and two more before de
feating Alpha Kappa Fsi.

team which will be competing for

knee by the solemn ordeal of kissing

At the break of dawn, Frank
INorris (California'94) was inspired
to propose that the occasion be re
newed annually. As Historian William
F. Chamberlain (Dension'93) says in
Tomas Beta of The History of Phi
Gamma Delta, "His was the prophetic
vision of feasts to come 'round Delta
boards from coast to coast, when >
young and old brothers should gather
in informal good fellowship."
Fiji Flight to Florida
The stags of 239 will be setting up
the 2nd annual migrating Fiji house
in Ft. Lauderdale this spring break.
The Boor's will be lead by outgoing
Fresident, Eric Deal and the Master
who is formally known as Tim Kinney.
The brothers will be more than ready
for the week vacation in the sunshine
and suprisingly enough the motel
which housed the brothers last year
haven't had enough and are allowing us
back again.
