Organizational Meetings and Selecting a Fraternity
For the next 15 months, we will be
celebrating the process which led to the Rho
Phi Chapter Chartering on November 22,
1969 - just eighteen months from the first
organizational meetings in April 1968.
One of the first important events was the
August 10 dinner meeting between the Core
Group and the Terre Haute Graduate
Chapter. Don Mighell, Frank Guthrie, Bill
Miller and others, at this meeting, offered to
support the Core Group as the sought
permission to colonize Phi Gamma Delta at
Rose Poly.

August 1968 was an important month for the colony as some members of the Terre Haute
Graduate Chapter would be attending the Grand Bahama Ekklesia eleven days after this
organizational meeting. Most importantly, Don Mighell was chairing the Charters Committee at
the Ekklesia. This committee - while convened at the Ekklesia - had the authority to cut
months or even years off the process to colonize. In our next “Fifty Years Ago” publication we
will discuss the coincidence of who was on a plane to the Bahamas and a telegram which
changed the lives of 15 young men.
