PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Since 196if there have been
many changes in both fraternity
and college systems.
Here at the
Alpha Gamma Chapter, we face one
of our greatest dilemmas, uncer
tainty of the future,
Roger Smith
and the members of the board have
left us hanging with a very vague
public statement that leaves all
doors open. When this occured,
all we could do was put it on the
back of our minds and keep on with
daily business. As it stands
1 have formed a scholarship com
mittee along with our pledge-
master, Mike Chizuk, and have
come up with some very good ideas
to address this problem.
We now have a new Purple
Legionaire, Mark Hresko, 1980,_
and 1 am sure Mark will do a fine
job, as he did as President,
Once
again 1 would like to thank Brother
Putnam for his excellent job last
year.

Needless
to say this is one of my areas of
deepest concern.
On a more positive note, we

goal, we are looking into our at

FIJI SOCIAL CORNER
The Fiji social scene for the
fall semester has once again been
a busy one. Our first event was
our annual canoe trip on July 18th,
(This is covered elsewhere so we
won't elaborate!), July 25th
marked the return to A-section
of the Fiji Island Party, and what
a return it was! Complete with
a waterfall, erotic dancing cage,
and the painting of the canal
wall, the house was in perfect
shape. Things really started
rolling around 11:30, as the

twelve pledges into its pledge
program. The class breaks down to
ten Freshmen, one Sophomore, and
one Junior, They come from all over
the country and share many different
talents, I am sure they will make
a fine contribution to the chapter
through their pledgeship and further
on as brothers,

The first all-

August 10th, when we cruised to
Detroit to watch the Tigers lose

of the centerfield bleachers.
Our Community Relations Dept.
kicked into gear Thursday, Aug. 27th
with a "Welcome Back Hurley" party.
According to our inside sources
at Hurley, our community relationsare doing rather well, and another
Hurley part is a good bet sometime
in the near future.
Other occa
sional fun has been Saginaw Street
cruises, ledge parties, and intro
ducing JM's fathers to tne intri
cacies of GMI fraternity parties.
Other future plans under consid
eration include another road trip
around Sept 19-20, and the Brother
hood party. All are looking
forward to them, as the past few
weeks have been enjoyed by every

. CANOE TRIP
The Annual Canoe Trip was once
again a successful and daring
adventure. The Au Sable River,
although powerful, failed yet again
to defeat the Fiji fleet. Twenty
Brothers, 16 Freshmen, Graduate
Brother Mark Cline and his wife
Linda, raided Oscoda Michigan this
year. The canoeing went rather well
until one would see the notorious
"Death Boat" Pirate fleet.
Once
cornered, a single canoe was in
evitably bombarded with bottle
rockets and left swamped with the
victims floating helplessly down
the river. The day climaxed as
always at the railroad bridge where
only the "brave" dared to scale and
dive from its massive hieghts. Once
ashore, these land-lover legs were
happy to have made it with only
"a few" minor scratches.
Until
next summer, the Au Sable will again
flow calmly,

Now that the roof project has
been completed, including the re

7/e decided to put the finishing
touches on the outside of the
house by painting all the trim.
In between paint fights and beer
runs, eight gallons of bolero
brown was put on all the concrete
trim and balconies in less than
six hours. This completed out

really looks great. Our other
major house improvement this

Jim Zimmerman,
Steve Hall, Joel Weeks, and Malce

for the Buick Open Golf Tournament
which is held annually in Grand

selling and exchanging tickets
at the various entrances to the
course and assisting in the parking
of the large number of cars which
surrounded the Warwick Hills
Country Club. Most of the funds
raised went to cerebral palsy and
Muscular Dystrophy.
After the work was over, the
Fiji men were free to roam the

they are now encountering. We are
going to talk with them to try to

On Sept. 23-26, a few of us
will try to go down to Detroit to
participate in a "Reality Walk",
in which the students are taken to
places such as unemployment lines,
jails, and supermarkets. We hope
we can contribute to its success.

The Hilton Hotel (featuring Jamie's

Needless to say, they

DAYTQNA '81
On April 10, 1981, 16 Brothers
from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, New
Jersey, and New Hampshire, began
road trips that would lead them to
Daytona Beach and the roudiest,
sleaziest, hardest-drinking week
of the year.
For the second year in a row,
we stayed at the inexpensive but
slightly demolished Ramada Inn
South, Days were spent catching
rays, drinking brews, and admiring
the scenery. At night, various
bars were visited, a particular
favorite of the Brothers being Vffihe
Hole", specializing in 50's and 60's
music and offering 75^ Mai Tais, '
Highlights of the trip included
renting and destroying two dune
buggies, going deep sea fishing,
and visiting Disney World,
As usual, a great time was
had by all, and we returned to work
with suntans and lots of good
stories and memories,
