President's Message
This Month at a Glance:
1. Recruitment: Among the major developments this month was the successful recruitment efforts of the
entire Lambda Omega colony, led by Brent Kennish our Recruitment Chairmen. Thanks to his dedication
2.
and hard work, we successfully generated a 7-person pledge class for second semester.
Website: The fully operational FIJI website is now up and running thanks to the effort of Santiago Campp
(Website Chairman), who created the entire site over the Christmas break. A special thanks goes to
Andrew Crook who kindly donated the funds to pay for the domain name. To visit the website, please go

Looking Forward:
J.
Winter Campout for Mental Health: Pat Valdis (Winter Campout Chairman) has been working diligently
on FIJI'S major philanthropy event that will be taking place this March in Victoria Park. 75% of proceeds
will be going to the Canadian Mental Health Association and 25% to funding our chartering weekend. The
event is being held in honour of our fallen brother Austen Berlet who tragically lost his life this past
summer. He is missed greatly by all those who were graced by his presence. More information below,
2. Petitioning for Charter at Ekklesia: The final major piece of news to share is that this July, the Lambda
Omega Colony will be traveling with approximately 15 of its brothers to Phoenix Arizona for Ekkjesia.
While there, we will be petitioning for pur charter and extend the invite to any, and all of the graduates
who can find the time to make it down for this monumental weekend.

Treasurer: Mike Payton (michael.payton1@gmail.com)
Recording Secretary: Wil Witkowsky (witkowskywil@gmail.com)

Fil Academy:
On January 8-10, 2010 six brothers of the Lambda Omega
colony along with Graduate Brother Mark Trenton
traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to attend the 35th annual
FUJI Academy. While there, the brothers experienced
extensive training on their cabinet positions, recruitment,
risk management and got the opportunity to network
with Phi Gam's from all over North America. They had the
opportunity to meet with International Headquarters staff
and had the chance to demonstrate to them what the
Lambda Omega Colony has been doing for the past year.
Pig Dinner
This is the first year that our Colony has the privilege of
planning and organizing the Frank Norris Pig Dinner. It
will be held on Saturday February 6", 2010 at Waldo’s
Bistro & Wine Bar. Prior to this year, Graduate Brother
Mark Trenton had kept the Frank Norris Pig Dinner
tradition alive, and we hope to keep up the
phenomenal work he has been doing since the closing
down in 2004. We are all excited to meet and hear
stories about the old Chapter and to let you know
everything that is happening with the colony at the
current time. If you have not yet reserved your spot,
please do so by February 1%, by e-mailing Byron Alfaro
at balfaro@uwo.ca.

UPDATES ON OUR COLONY!
\r\nSocial:
| am pleased to report that all social events thus far have been a success with our Fraternity and all of the
Sororities involved. Although some events are still being planned for the remainder of the semester, the
majority of events have been successfully planed with every sorority on campus, which fulfills our goal of
increasing our exposure within the Greek community at Western. We anticipate the upcoming events and
look forward to them being successes such as the previous ones.

Philanthropy:
The Lambda Omega Colony has recently begun work
on organizing our largest philanthropic/fundraising
event of the year. For this event, the brothers will be
camping out in Victoria Park for 24-hours on Friday
March 5” 2010, in the hopes of gaining major
attention from the community and raising money for
charity. The charity that will be receiving the majority
of the event's proceeds will be the Canadian Mental
Health Association.
This event means a lot to the brothers as it will be
held in honour of Austen Berlet, a beloved brother of
the colony who passed away last summer. Our hopes are to raise upwards of $20,000 with this event, and to
continue this event each year in order to properly honour Austen.
Any graduate help for this event is welcome and greatly appreciated, including: donations, event setup, or
even just coming out to support the brothers on the event day. If you would like to make a donation to this
event or are interested in receiving more information, please contact Patrick Valdis at pat_valdis@yahoo.ca
or by phone at 519-860-1232.
\r\nPledging from a Pledge’s eyes:
On December 6" 2009, the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta
officially welcomed Michael Donavan, Andrew Marfleet, Andy
Noens, Kyle Diotte, Jeff McAllister, Patrick Duncan, Chris
Bacik, Alex Kruzyk, Luke Kikot and |, Simon Ho as Colony
Initiated Brothers. The fall 2009 pledge class brings a lot of
diversity to our group. It is composed of brothers of different
ages, nationalities, programs and of course, personalities. The
Beta Class represents everything that Fiji stands for, as each
— member of my pledge class has the qualities required to be a
Fil gentlemen. Through the pledging process, we have gotten to know each other and have bonded
through the many social and philanthropic events we attended, as well as our weekly education
meetings. We had our pinning ceremony in early September and the months we were pledges was a
very fulfilling experience. Although not everyone that was pinned became a fully initiated colony
brother, we had what was in my opinion, an amazing pledge class. Personally, | believe the pledging
process has helped make me a better person as | have learned invaluable life skills, one of which was
teamwork. | hope the Graduate Brothers of Lambda Omega can join me in applauding the efforts of my
pledge class for our efforts and dedication during the pledging process. Also, I'd like to thank the
Lambda Omega Colony brothers for their prudence and good judgement in choosing such outstanding
gentlemen to the become part of the Phi Gamma Delta family. The colony is now looking ahead to find
the next pledge class and | wish them an amazing experience — just like the one | had.
-Simon Ho, Fall 2009 Pledge Class.
