Rock Chalk Revue: Where in the World?
By: Will Shteamer ’11 and David Larson ’12, Rock Chalk Revue Directors
This year the Pi Deuteron participated in Rock Chalk Revue
(RCR), a philanthropy event for the Lawrence chapter of the United Way.#
RCR is a variety show where each fraternity pairs up with a sorority to write
and produce an original musical.# After an initial selection process, where
only the top 5 shows pass, the houses produce their musicals.# It raised#about
$60,000-70,000 dollars this year, with over 4,000 people in attendance.#
Along with the women of Gamma Phi Beta, directors David Larson (2012)
Will Shteamer (2011) and Matt Mullender (2010) created a musical good
enough to make it into the Revue for the first time in several years.# In
addition, our show won the Audience Choice Award! I would estimate that
each director put in at least 250 hours into the show, and that each cast
member#put in about 100 hours into the show.
Show Synopsis:
In fair Lawrence, where we lay our scene, reside two feuding families, the
Sandiegos and the Wallingtons. The Sandiegos are led by the strong-willed duo of
Tony and Anita Sandiego, while the steadfast William and Wenda Wallington lead
the Wallingtons. There is no issue too small or inconsequential that the families
can’t bicker about.

Matt Mullender ’10 gather after the show for a

basement the week prior to the performance
"
As the feud transcends the generations, our star-crossed lovers, Carmen
and Waldo, are struck between loyalty to their families or to their love of each
other. The two contemplate a new life, far away from their quarreling families.
Thus, Carmen and Waldo decide to flee to a secret location. The young lovers
confide in the friendly, eccentric baker, Thom, to help them on their journey.
"
Needless to say, the Sandiegos and Wallingtons are beside themselves in
wondering where in the world Carmen and Waldo really are. Their parents
immediately blame each other, not wishing to break with tradition. But,
determined to find their siblings, the younger generations reconcile their
differences and unite to search full speed ahead for Carmen and Waldo. Will
Carmen and Waldo finally be found? Will the families resolve their differences?
Left: David Larson ’12, Will Shteamer
’11, and Matt Mullender ’10 celebrate the
night that FIJI found out it was accepted
into the RCR variety show.
Right: Jack Hutsey ’10, Jarred Harrington
’11, Will Shteamer ’11, and Scott Sturgeon
’10 demonstrate the feud between the San
Diegos and the Wallingtons

Graduate Relations
Chapter House Awards
By: Joseph Moore ’11 and Will Shteamer ’11
One of our main goals is to increase the relationship between our graduate
brothers and the undergraduate chapter. We feel that in the past the undergraduate
chapter has done a disservice to the raduate Brothers with The Jayhawker. We
have often rushed to put it together and get it out. In an effort to increase relations,
we took extra time on this edition and we hope that you notice and enjoy this. In
return, we ask you, the Graduate Brothers, to give us feedback on The Jayhawker
and any other topics you have advice about. We’ve listed all of our emails and
telephone numbers. Please feel free to contact us at any time.
You all should have received a letter in early March. The purpose of this was twofold. First, it was meant to supply you with a quick update while we put together
this newsletter. Secondly, it was sent out so that we can consolidate the mailing
lists (i.e. wrong addresses, relocations, deaths). We are still in the process of
editing the list. Obviously if you did not receive that letter, please contact us so
that we can update your information. Additionally, if you would like an email or
hard copy of the mailing list, do not hesitate to let us know. It has been a pleasure
speaking with all of the Graduate Brothers who have gotten in contact with me
this semester. I’ve gained some insight into things that can better the programs
that we have in place right now. It also has increased my morale knowing that I
have all of your support.Mighty Proud!

Social Scene
By: Ronnie Elkouri ’12
!
Phi Gamma Delta is known for consistently
providing a safe, positive, and fun social atmosphere
within the Greek community. With notable parties
such as Fiji Island, The Renaissance Festival, Crawfish
Broil and Monster Truck Jam, it’s easy to see that Phi
Gamma Delta is high up on the social ladder. Each of
these parties contain they’re own unique theme and
environment. Having parties such as these allow us to
interact with other houses on campus while creating
bonds and friendships that will last for years.

!
This semester we’ve had many mixers with
the local sororities, such as Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa
Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Pi Beta Phi. While
scholarship is sure the biggest priority at FIJI, we
definitely value our weekends and the chance to meet
and greet with the women of KU. The
undergraduates are sure looking forward to our
Formal which will be held in a couple weeks at the
Lake of the Ozarks.
