Message from the President
Brothers of Zeta Deuteron,
As we come to the end of the year, I can’t but help to
wonder where the time has gone. It seems like yesterday that
I was beginning my time in Lexington, and now only one
semester remains between the real world and me. I am sure
that all of you know the feeling.
Lexington holds a special place for most of us. The
memories of our four years follow us through our lives, and we
must cherish them until the end of time.
The Zeta Deuteron chapter is alive and well. We
have had a highly successful semester in Lexington. We are
running full speed ahead on rush, and hope to have a larger
pledge class than last year. We also completed a successful
philanthropy event with one of the sororities on campus,
raising over $500 for charity.
Usually this letter is an update on the house and what
we are doing at Zeta Deuteron. But I am going to ask for help
from each of you.
We need help. We need graduate brothers to fill
vacancies on our Housing Corporation, we need monetary
donations to help us update our beloved home, and we need
you to help us accomplish this.
During these last few weeks of 2016, I ask that you
remember those fond memories with your brothers. All of
those late nights and early mornings, all of the inside jokes, all
of the wild stories that are too crazy to tell, and everything in
between. I ask that you consider giving back, whether that is
through monetary donations or stopping in Lexington while
you are passing through, so that the next generation of Zeta
Deuteron’s can create memories similar to your own.
We hope to see graduate brothers during the spring
Alumni Weekend May 11-14. We also invite all of you to
the 2017 Pig Dinner on May 13. More information will be
provided at a later date.

ZDs take on XC
Nationals
Brothers MacKenzye Leroy ‘18 and Patrick
Hunter ’19 will be wrapping up an outstanding cross-country season by representing the
Generals at the NCAA championships in
Louisville, KY. Leroy placed 10th overall at
the crucial regional meet that preceded nationals. The pair has greatly appreciated the
support they have received from brothers in
the house throughout the season. “Other Fijis
were the first ones to text us and congratulate us when we placed at regionals,” Leroy
said. Leroy hopes to hit a time faster than his
season best of 25:28 for 8k at the big race. He
is consistently the second fastest runner on
the team. Hunter, who is only a sophomore,
has already run 26:00 at a meet early in the
season. The last time the Generals qualified
for Nationals was in 1995.

During the summer Western Kentucky University Fijis stopped for the night on their bicycle trek from
Seattle, Washington to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Back tires in the Pacific Ocean in May and front tires
in the Atlantic Ocean in July. The ride was to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. This picture is in
my Mom’s driveway in Lexington where they stopped for a break before their last couple of miles into
Lexington. Truman and Pearl and I donning our purple! Dana Hess, Fiji from Virginia Tech and our
outgoing section chief, bought all of us dinner at Macado’s. The riders and several of the ZDs visited
when they crashed for the night at my house in the county.

Changes to the House
Lots of work enhancing the physical house occurred this summer. Shrubs and trees replace the old shabby
boxwoods. The new vinyl shades on the side porch were used the first time for YAW/Homecoming weekend.
We had a visit from Fiji alumni, George Werthan ’55 during AllStar Weekend in September. George enjoyed seeing the house
and meeting current brothers, Nelson, Arthur and Michael.
