During the Spring of 2016 the undergraduate chapter
held their annual FIJI Red White and Spike volleyball

Student Organization, (VSO) to help honor the loss of
fellow K-State student and veteran, Jacob Horton. Red

proceeds from this event directly supported Jacobs family and helped others fighting struggles of post combat
hardship. This year’s Red White and Spike raised $2,000
Fiji Run
In November, Chi Deuteron hosted the 42nd Annual
Fiji Run for Leukemia, a philanthropy event created in
memory of Rod Morgan (1972), with Pi Deuteron at
Kansas. During the event, the chapters raised nearly
$6,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
During this time, Phi Gamma Delta has become the
single largest provider of donations for the organization,
donating more than $670,000.
48th Pig Dinner
Brotherhood was all around at The 48th Annual Chi
Deuteron Pig Dinner!
We welcomed over 110 graduate brothers back to Manhattan for an awesome weekend. Joined by 86 undergraduate brothers, this was, for the second year in a row,
the largest Pig Dinner in Chi Deuteron history.
The weekend was capped off Monday will Phi Gamma
Delta Executive Director Bill Martin presenting K-State
Head Football Coach Bill Snyder with the Distinguished
Fiji Award. Chi Deuteron was honored to host this
event and it was great having our two favorite Bills in
the house!
It only gets better from here brothers. Save the date for
the 49th Annual Frank Norris Pig Dinner at Chi Deuteron, April 21-23, 2017.
\r\nEVery Brother Every YEAr
The Chapter will be spending the month of January cleaning up
our Graduate Brother Database. Working in conjunction with
the Fraternity’s International Headquarters, our goal is to have a
mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, and Facebook
connection (for those with a Facebook account) with every Chi
Deuteron Graduate Brother from every pledge class year. Representatives from each pledge class will be reaching out to their
brothers to verify their info and for assistance in tracking down
those brothers who may be hard to find. This is an important
project in preparation of our Chapter’s 50th Pig Dinner in 2018
and your assistance in appreciated.
Bill Snyder – Distinguished Fiji
The Archons established the Distinguished Fiji Award in 1965. Their policy states, "The Distinguished Fiji Award
will be presented annually to no more than six graduate brothers who shall be deserving of recognition for their
faithful and unselfish service to Phi Gamma Delta or their special contribution to mankind and society at large."
Brother Snyder recently completed his 24th season as the head football coach at Kansas State University. His first
season in Manhattan was 1989. The Wildcats’ last win prior to that season was in October 1986. In his third year,
1991, the team finished 7-4, and in 1993 went to the first of 11 consecutive bowl games. In 1998 the Wildcats
went undefeated in the regular season; in 2003 they won the Big 12 Championship. Coach Snyder retired after
the 2005 season but returned after the 2008 season. During his first season back, the team tied for second in the
Big 12 North division. In 2012 he led the Wildcats to the school’s first number one ranking in the BCS standings
and its first Big 12 Conference championship since 2003. Over his career, Kansas State has finished in the final
rankings of the major college football polls on 13 occasions, with six rankings in the top 10. Coach Snyder has
received several conference and national coach of the year awards, including the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year
Award (1998 and 2013), the Sporting News National Coach of the Year (2011), and Big 12 Conference Coach of
the Year (1998, 2002, 2011, and 2012). In recognition of his leadership of one of the most successful rebuilding
projects in the history of college athletics, on January 9, 2015, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of
Fame.
\r\nKyle Alsop – Carhartt Bassmaster College
Series National Championship
Brother Kyle Alsop and his teammate Taylor Bivins won
the 2016 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National
Championship. Alsop finished the three-day event on
Green River Lake with 36 pounds, 4 ounces. His team
was the only team in the field of 89 teams to bring in
more than 10 pounds every day.
