Private, Co. F, 2nd Maryland Infantry; wounded and captured at Gettysburg. Frank Richards (Gettysburg 186_) wrote the Grand Chapter at Jefferson, "We met, upon our return to college, at the opening of the session, one of the members of our fraternity in the hospital here. He is a rebel and from your chapter. His name is Polk. We treated him as kindly as was possible to treat a rebel Delta. We went to see him frequently and gave him a catalogue. He is a very strong Johnny reb."
