2003 - December 19 - Final FijiNet Message

In May 1995, George A. "Skip" Buckley (Wittenberg University 1980), wanted to utilize the growing Internet and use of email to facilitate communication among members of Phi Gamma Delta. This simple email list was manually maintained by Skip. Skip would forward out messages to brothers from other brothers at a time when there were few electronic resources available in Phi Gamma Delta to communicate with members. Skip deemed this service "FijiNet". In a broader sense, FijiNet was a movement to utilize the Internet as a whole to facilitate communication on the Internet. The fraternity's first website phigam.org was partially driven by the efforts of brothers on the FijiNet committee.

This three page document tells the story of the email list portion of FijiNet. Especially important were the messages communicated on September 11, 2001, when simultaneous terrorist attacks were launched on the United States of American in Pennsylvania, Washington DC and New York City. FijiNet was a valuable forum to quickly communicate important massages among members.

The document includes the last email message sent on FijiNet. The simple request by a member seeking volunteers for a committee was a fitting end to the FijiNet effort as this was typically what many of the messages were.
