1994 Oral History Interview - John D. Sheppard (University of Pittsburgh 1944)

August 12, 1994 oral history interview at the 146th Ekklesia in Kansas City, Missouri. William E. Parrish (Westminster Faculty) who was serving as Phi Gamma Delta Historian at the time, interviewed John D. Sheppard (University of Pittsburgh 1944). John served as an Archon Treasurer from 1972 through 1976 and Archon President from 1976-1978. The interview is 20:00 in length.,Brother Sheppard discusses when he first pledged Phi Gamma Delta in 1944, almost joining Delta Tau Delta because the University of Pittsburgh FIJIs didn't offer him a bid his first term at school. He goes over his experiences as a section chief, Archon treasurer, and Archon president. He recalls some of his more memorable Ekklesiae, (getting only 10 hours of sleep in four days at one of them). John also discusses he relationship with Norman Vincent Peale (Ohio Wesleyan University 1920), and how he believes a true FIJI is a gentleman of character. He goes on to discuss some of the fraternity's challenges, and how he believes the answer to many of them is more active support from our graduate brothers.
