1951 Nebraska Ivy Day Singing Contest

From collection Phi Gamma Delta AV Collection

1951 Nebraska Ivy Day Singing Contest

1951 Ivy Day Concert at the University of Nebraska. Phi Gamma Delta won the competition. The group was lead by Jerry Solomon (Nebraska 1951). The solo is Bob Swain (Lafayette College 1951). The original was recorded on a old size 78 vinyl record. The audio was digitized by Jim Williamson Recording in Lincoln, Nebraska (presumed 1994).

From a note by Jerry Solomon: "A grandchild of Dick Kuhl (Nebraska 1950) found an old, cracked record. It was so bad you couldn't tell it was a singing group. An expert cleaned it up and got it onto a disk. The old size 78 record is going into the Phi Gam Archives. It's amazing how you can take a group of amateur voices and turn them into a golden sound. Thought you might enjoy having it for your grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
