DELTA XI IN FOR BIG YEAR
DELTA XI STILL BREAKING
RECORDS
Delta Xi has not been content with
the stopping of the progress made last
j'ear, but is continuing to forge ahead in
every wa}'. The present active member
ship of the house exceeds that of previ
ous years, while the pledge group ap

the house and the ready cooperation of
the members, the Mothers' Club, and
the alumni. Delta Xi is being placed on
a firmer financial basis than ever before.
The number of Fijis prominent in
campus activities is steadily increasing.
Many of them have been successful in
making some of the best honor societies
Bill Moody again was our high-point
man with fourteen and a half units of A's
and four and a half units of B's. We ex
pect to have at least one more man in
an honor society. Allan Hinman ranked
second in the house.
Everybodj' is working hard at present
to keep up our good standing, and it
looks as if we shall be on top again dur-.
ing the next year.
IMPROVEMENTS IN HOUSE
The Chapter has made some improve
ments in the house this year, many of
which were badly needed. At the open
ing of school the house got its annual
coat of paint, and this greatly helped its
on the campus, and we have high hopes
in that direction for a large number of

stood first among all the fraternities on
them altogether. Probably the most im
portant improvement has been the pur
chasing of a new dining room table.
This table is large enough to seat all the
brothers at the same time. It is very
good looking, and hence, table cloths
will be abandoned in the future. Among
others, the rooms upstairs have been
painted as well as the hall; and the kit

DOINGS OF THE ALUMNI
There has been a lot of interest shown
in the Chapter this year by the alumni,
especially in rushing. That sort of thing
has put all kinds of pep into the boys.
There is always room for one more to
put his feet under the table here so I
hope all of you will take advantage of
that fact.
Justinian
Caire is now attending
Davis. They tell me he can bust a bronc
with the best of them.
Shirley Baker is going back to Har
vard Business School again this year.
"Hahvahd" seems to agree with "Bake."
O. B. Doyle will be very much in evi
dence at Washington University again.
Wait till "OB" starts to operate.
Jack Skelly is also going to medical
school. George Washington University
is where he'll hang his hat.
Clayton Seitz looked in on us last
week. He has just returned from New
York to spend a year on the coast.
"Jeff" Cowan , was recently elected
president of Phi Delta Phi. It seems he
ran on a wet platform.
"Wally" Everett passed his bar ex
amination a short while ago. Fix up a
nice little divorce, sir?
"Ty" Cobb is going to Hastings to
make a lawyer out of himself.
Eric Sutcliffe is hitting the books at
Boalt Hall.
What chance has crime
now?
"Queery" Barret is putting his old
man's law office on a paying basis. What
holds the sack, "Queery"?
Little Freddie Shoeneman is learning
how its done at Hastings. "Pansy" says
he has the situation well in hand.
LOST ADDRESSES
In checking over our files we have
found that the following addresses are
doubtful or unknown. If anyone knows
anything of the whereabouts of these
men we would appreciate your notify
ing the Chapter House, as it will be an
aid in sending out Chapter mail and in
keeping in touch with these men.

IN APPRECIATION OF THE
UNDERGRADUATE CHAPTER
BY CHAS. WADE SNOOK '13,
CHIEF OF SECTION XIV
As Section Chief, I feel that I should
not let another issue of the Norris Fiji
go by without broadcasting to the
alumni of the Chapter, and the officers
of the fraternity, my personal and offi
cial appreciation, for the remarkable
progress that Delta Xi Chapter has been
making recently.
Since I took office four years ago the
Chapter has steadily improved in every
way until today it stands in probably the
best position it has ever held on the
campus. The crowning achievement is
in attaining the position of first out of
65 fraternities and clubs in scholarship
standings at the University, which is
Delta Xi's rating for the past semester.
Second only to this is the fact that, due
to the most efficient work of the house
manager, Joy Matteson, with the co
operation of the hardworking alumni
advisory committee, the financial stand
ing of the chapter is such that there is
now $4000.00 surplus, and at the same
time house bills are cheaper and meals
are better than any other fraternity on
the campus. The Chapter is represented
on the campus in every line of activity
and this has been attained without any
sacrifice of the personnel of the Chapter.
The Fijis now in the chapter are the
same kind of Fijis you and I knew when
we were in college, with the exception
that they not only know how to play
but can work harder and more efficient
ly when the time comes to work.
I feel that I cannot say too much in
appreciation of the Chapter. They de
serve and have earned increased alumni
support, and, in conclusion, may I urge
that more of our alumni contact the
Chapter and join in its service. You will
find that the Chapter is most anxious to
make your acquaintance and receive
your advice, and in recognition of their
achievement I personally urge each
alumnus in the vicinity of Berkeley to
call on the Chapter, and each alumnus
at a distance to bear them in mind by
way of recommending future material,
particularly sons and brothers of Fijis.

The managerial staff is well supplied
with Fijis. Heading the list is Bob Har

We have four junior managers, who all
have excellent chances for making their
senior appointments. El Connolly '32
is a junior football manager; Bob Rosson '32 is a junior basketball manager;
Mark Gregg is a junior baseball man
ager; Ken Bell is a junior manager on
the editorial staff of the "Blue and
Gold." The sophomore managers are

DELTA XI PLEDGES SEVEN
MEN
After a week devoted entirely to rush
ing, seven men are wearing the white
star of Delta Xi this semester. They
are a fine bunch of fellows and will all
make good Fijis.
Charles Copeland, Berkeley. "Bugs"
is the son of Fiji Edwin Copeland, Stan-
semester, and looking back on last year's
formal only makes one look forward
with more anticipation.
Although definite plans have not been
made in regard to whose orchestra will
play, at least it is certain that the music
will be the best available. The decorative
effects are always carefully thought out
and are sure to be original and striking.
It has been in the past the policy of
Delta Xi to overlook expense in making
the occasion a memorable one, and tbis
year the formal is going to be the best
yet in the annals of Delta Xi historj-.

MOTHERS' COOPERATION
DELTA XI ELECTS NEW
AP
PRECIATED BY DELTA XI
There is a deep feeling of gratitude
at Delta XI towards the Mothers' Club.
Every third Friday of the month the
mothers have a meeting at the house.
OFFICERS
This year the officers will be the same
as were elected last semester, with the
exception of Henry Kilpatrick, Kenneth
Bell, and Fred Schoeneman.
It is on these occasions that we have a
chance to become acquainted with them.
We hope that these events are enjoyed
as much by them as they are by us.
The mothers have been very generous
to the house and have made us many
presents, which are truly appreciated.
This year they are giving us a set of
dishes, which is badly needed. The co
operation of the Mothers' Club is a
wonderful thing and will go far to make
us a strong chapter.
They are as follows:
President, Bob Harris.
Vice President, Joy Matteson.
Secretary, Joseph Kimble.
Corresponding Secretary, Kenneth
Bell.
Historian, Henry Kilpatrick.
Rushing, Bob Rosson and Bill Hous
ton.
Exchange Dinners, Joe Kimble.
Scholarsbip, Bill Moody.
