Bill came to Delta Xi from Stockton in 1949 and was initiated February 26,

six year curriculurn in 1955, Bill accepted a position vl'ith California Packing Corp
oration, .
, '
From 1955 to 1958 he served as Purple Legionnaire - a position which Jie re
gretfully gave up when Cal Pack transferred him to Santa Clara, The distance
between Santa Clara and Berkeley prohibited his weekly visits, but Bill continued
in interest in Delta Xi and extended his assistance to ineiude Lambda Sigma at
Stanford, He served on our Board of Chapter Advisers since the l?oard's reorgan
ization in 1959 and was always on hand for a meeting. Bill frequently dropped by
just to visit with the brothers and has attended every initiation ^incje 1955,
When not on his job at Cal Pack or at the house. Bill could be found at home
gamesduring the football season and when duck season opens he's hunting in the
delta lands around Stockton,
Bill just recently received a promotion and has been made Operations Super
intendent of the Phillippine Packing Corporation, a subsidiary of California Pack

sport,
'
„
Thus, jn his honor a banquet was held. Besides Bill hnd"his wife, a nximber of

TRUMPET BLOWING CHEF - continued
Harry Hart, our new chef has made a name for himself at Cal,
Harry is a Louis Armstrong-type gentleman who singlehandely rejuvenated the
rooting section by playing a jazzy trumpet fight call, "I just walked into the game,
sat in the cheering section, got up and played," Harry states,
Harry came to us from the Phi Gam house at Williams College, Williamstown,
Mass, In fact he was chef there for 20 plus years, A Williams tradition, Harry
had to give up is his making milk punch in a bathtub on the lawn on Sunday morn
ings - not because he fears the administration but because people out here have a
different cure,
Harry performed at the Big Game and practically blasted Stanford off the field,
Harry will be around for other sports events and has promised his notes above
high C will echo near and far.
An Alumnus Personality:
GEORGE GIBBS '95 HAS ACHIEVED MANY GOALS
If one were to ask GEORGE GIBBS '95, if there had ever been a time in his
life that was a.high point, we feel sure that he would reply "I always feel that way,'
In December,1900, George left San Francisco to go to Chicago to learn more
about the making of steel. Equipped with the necessary knowledge he was sent to
Milwaukee to open a sales office. In 1914 he started his own business and btiilt up
the largest steel warehouse in Wisconsin, After 55 years of steel, he sold out and
9f
retired,
George and his wife, opened a clubhouse for underpriviledged boys in a very
poor district and spent two nites a week there for years. The venture was a great
success and many of those youths have become good citizens and in turn have helped
other lads.
There are other activities that George has enjoyed thru the years -- for 11
years he managed the Wisconsin State Tennis Tournament and two of those years
he was the >ylilwaukee champion. Bowling, golf, fishing, hiking and bicycle riding
complete the list.
During the years in Milwaukee he has been active in the Episcopal Church and
taught a boys bible class for 12 years.
Yes, George has had an interesting and active life. He and his wife have been
together for 54 years and now live in a beautiful home on the shores of Lake Mich
igan, The home covers two acres of splendid variety of trees and many flowers.
The Gibb's continue to travel and have traveled considerably in the past. They
spend their winters in California.
George and his wife reside at 7228 N, Beach Drive, Fox Point, Milwaukee, 12,
