As I waded through the chilling rain

checked my coat and strained to hear what
the handlebar moustached gentleman on the
stage was attempting so excitedly to say.
From the few words I could sift out of
the dialect, it appeared as if he was per

YOUNGSTERS
Keeping with the Christmas spirit
\diich has permeated the Wabash campus,
Psi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta will
treat 21 youngsters to a Christmas
party and dinner on December 15, 1960,
from h to 7 P-m. Simultaneously, each
fore a German fellow did. (They always

taining these children.
These boys and girls, ranging in
age from five to fourteen years, are
from Crawfordsvi He's north side, one
of the town's poorest areas. Most of
them are from homes broken either by
death or divorce. Consequently, for many
did I realize the "band had been playing
marches. How do you dance to a march? She
was comfortingly xmderstanding as we fox
trotted and Jitterbugged through the march
and stumbled through the following polka.
I retvtmed her to her date to the accom
paniment of another "Prosit, Prosit,

By 2:30 A.M. most of the larger band
had come down from the stage and were
themselves among the dancing couples,
leaving a smaller combo to play: Jambalya,
other recent hits, finally Lili Marlene,
Brahms* Lullaby, and Zapfenstreich.
On the walk home, attempting to recall
the vocabulary I had learned and trying to
appraise my language progress during the
evening, and wondering what sort of a
training program they engage in to "be able
to withw-tand such evenings, seldom as they
may come, a member of the group with whom
I was walking turned to me and asked
sin5)ly, "Coming again tomorrow night?"
of these children the fraternity party
and dinner will be their only Christmas
celebrations. Before the turkey dinner
with all the trimmings, Santa Claus will
give stockings of fruit. Each will have
ample opportunity to squeeze orange juice
on the new rug, slip half-masticated
candy and gum "between the rug and the
rubber mat, scratch the furniture with
any and all available instruments, and
kick, "beat, maul, and/or otherwise
torture the benevalent members of Phi
Gamma Delta.
To add to the true significance of
the season, Christmas carols will be
sung. Singing Psi has been rehearsing
over a week in preparation for this part
of the evening. The presents he'll "bear
will have been selected by I.F.C.
representatove Rogge and the wives of
the married brothers.
This "Christmas party for the kids"
has become an annual affair here at
Wabash, By entering whole-heartedly
into this Christmas party, Psi hopes to
do its small part in bringing "Joy -to
the world" and a "Merry Christmas to
all'.".
