Mel Garland '64
Mel Garland '64 was recently
chosen by his teammates as both
''most valuable player" and hon
orary captain of the 1962-63 Purdue
basketball squad. The Associated
Press also picked Mel to the AllBig Ten first team. Garland led
the Boilermakers in scoring with a
23.1 points per game average and
his agility and control gained him
the title "playmaker."
A junior in the school of physical
education, Mel comes from Indian
apolis Technical High School.
Mel is looking forward to a good
season next year along with his run
ning mate at guard, Ron Hughes,
a sophomore Phi Gam from Kokomo. Purdue is also hoping for the
best, as the Boilermakers finished
with a 7-17 record and were last in
the Big Ten this year.
