CHAPTER NEHS
Just 4-| i./eeks c.go the usual onion odor characteristic of
former Hell Weeks v/as abolished a.nd replaced uith the smell
of fresh paint.
Hell Week viTas Indeed a Help Week, and as a
result,many long:-needed Improvements v/ere made in the general
appearance of the entire house.
With the help of actives and
pledges together the front and back porches uere sanded and
repainted; the entire first floor, the basement,the kitchen,
and the halls and stairs v,'ere cleaned and repainted; nev;
stair mats v;ere put dovm; the kitchen v/as retiled; and the
rest of the house cleaned and repaired.
In addition nev; carpets
vrere purchased to replace the old v/orn-out ones in the living
and music rooms, and major repairs ha.d to be made in the
water-heating system.
Those of you vlio have recently visited
the chapter hou.s6 v;ill have to adiiit that the house does
look quite a bit better.
On September 15th eleven pledges were initiated into
the brotherhood of phi Gamma Delta.
The nevr brothers are
Peter K. Blue, William S. Cassedy, Robert P. Ebert, John S.
Harbeck, Donald G. Mehs-ffey, Willam D. lUcolay, David M,
Plunimer, David H. Ring, Vincent F, Russo, Thomas W, Salamone,
and Leona.rd P, Smith.

On the same day brother John P. Taylor \fas installed
into the office of Treasurer, replacing brother Richard T.
Coulter vrho resigned at the end of last jeaT,
Gongradulations are due to brothers Michael E# Champ and
Louis G, Bruhn, Jr., both members of the class of 1964, for
their recent marriages.
Brother Champ was married to the
former Miss Barbara Wessner of Merrick, N.Y. on August 29th,
and Brother Briihn to the former Miss Peggy Van Allen of
Kingston.
Both couples no\-/ reside vrithin close distance of
the Union campus,

October 1, 1963.

Brother NGRl-oAB L, 1'LA.USER a-nd his wife Beth are now
the proud parents of a daughter, born on May 17>1963«
Brother THOilAS E, SEILS has returned to Union after
three years in the U.S. Armj'' and employment v/ith
IBM to V7ork for a degree in electrical engineering,
Tom and his v;ife Evelyn along ^/ith their two children,
Maureen 2-|-, and Ronald 9 months, reside, at
76 McClellan Street

Brother KEUUETH A. PAYMEUT was recently married to
Miss Heidi Friederick, daughter of Walter J, Friederick,
'28,
Ken is now working tovfards his degree in law
at the University of Cornell,
1964
Brother JOHN W, MCCARTNEY 'uas accepted to the Western
Reserve School of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio, after
completion of only three years of undergraduate
study at Union.
He is nov; enrolled in the first
year class and looking forevrard eventually to entering
the field of orthodontics.
