Spring 1971
Buckeye Piji Graduates;
It h.as been a whole year since Omirron Deuteron last communicated
with our graduate brothers. During this time many good things have
been happening here at 218 -^ast 17th Avenue.
Your chapter is once
again one of the best on campus and not to be"stepped on" by anyone.
PIJI PRIDE is here again.
Last fall we started with a pledge class of twenty-four strong
men.
The diversity of the class was its strength.
Pig Dinner, which
was the night before Homecoming, was a great success from both the
graduate and undergraduate standpoint.
The chapter's newer members we
quite impressed with the graduate group. Por the second year in a row
Phi Gamma Delta won second place in the Homecoming!Ploat Contest.
Just as the Bucks rolled over their opponents on the collegiate
gridiron, so did "The Purple Bunch" on the intermural field.
The
pledge team was runnerup in the Class III DivisionI and the actives
rolled over Delta Chi in the Class I championship.
At the end of
f§,i,l quarter many brothers journeyed to California to see the Buckeye"!
play Stanford.
Winter quarter things slowed down so the Pijis invited many
sororities over for beer suppers.
In intermurals the actives played
the cocky pledges for the Class II Volleyball Championship.
(This
was the same active team that played in the Class I Volleyball
Championship last year as pledges)
Believe it or not the pledges bes'
the actives and didn't hear the end of it until "Hell Week."
The annual Winter Pormal turned out to be the second best party of
the year.
Being a slow quarter the brothers raised their scholarship
It may or may not be known that the winter before jlast we were 42
out of 44 fraternities in scholarship.
were 15 out of 42.
"inter quarter this year we
Our 2.578 accum is the first in many years to
be above a 2.5, the all fraternity average (2.544)!, and the all men's
average (2.475). Phi Gamma Delta won the inteSfraternity system
award for quarterly improvement. The men were quite proud of these
accomplishments and are now striving to be in the |top ten next year.
Spring quarter was much quieter than last year. The brothers
were pleased that things whnt as smoothly as they idid. The active
Softball team made it to the semi-finals of Class I.
Many brothers
Gams placed second in the all intermural sports trophy.
The day
before Taster Sunday we held and Easter Egg Hunt for underpriviledged
children with Kappa Alpha The^i. '"oth the kids and the brothers had
a great time.
Piji Island 1971 was held Memorial iDay wekbadd on
some property ownwd by Brother Jack Havens '49.
A great time was
had by all, to cap another great year for Ohio State Pijis.
I have tried to give you an idea hww we have ^done this year.
Omicron Deuteron is once again a chapter you cna be proud to be
associated with.
Many graduate brothers deserve credit for the time
they have spent here at the chapter house. Some of them are George
Benson,'67; John Montgomery,'63; Bob Prior,'63, Joe Ray III,'67;
and Bob Gerbig,'67.
If you have any questions please c§,ll me and if any of the
graduate brothers are around the house please stop by.
