Woodward and Rich Wright were elected recording

respectively.
One of the main goals of the new administration will
be to involve as many members as possible in the
everyday operations of the chapter. Also, closer
relations with other Fiji chapters will be sought. Three
of the five new officers were delegates to the "Seminar
for the Seventies" held at Georgia last quarter.
The old cabinet deserves recognition for its fine job
during the past year. Besides Jim, the cabinet which
served the '72-'73 term, included Lin Acuff, treasurer;

Kevin Schoonover,
fighting to regain some losses caused by rising taxes,
and rising food and maintenance prices, coupled with
last year's membership loss through graduation. With
the help of a strong rush, we have climbed back to 55
members and 10 pledges from the total of nearly 40
after last spring. Now we can spread our financial needs
over a wider range.
However the city of Atlanta and Fulton County has
increased our taxes by $800, so we are still in some
binds. To help solve this problem we have had to raise
the room rent in the house from $110 to $120. The rising
food prices have also caused a need for higher board
charges, from $140 to $150 a quarter.
These expenses have caused some strains on the
budget, but with the help of Gamma Tau, Inc., and
continued graduate support we will find our finances
much improved.
\r\nNew President's report
%
Gamma Tau is back on her feet this spring after a
membership crisis in the fall. Fourteen new members
have added to the quality of our chapter. These are
active and hard-working men and have proven to be an
inspiration to the older brothers. With an active
chapter of 50 members and a pledge class of nine,
Gamma Tau is contributing more to the fraternity
status at Tech.
My congratulations go out to the Kappa Deuteron
Chapter at Georgia for a fine job in hosting the
"Seminar for the Seventies" last quarter. Both new and
old ideas were hashed out during the session. I am sure
I speak for everyone who was there in thanking our
fellow Fijis at Georgia.
Combining ideas from our field secretary's visit and
the seminar, Gamma Tau began some constructive
changes at the end of the last administration. These
changes centered around a new committee system that
was developed by Past President Jim DuUum and his
cabinet, with the goal of involving more members in the
chapter's operations. House and grounds, rush and
pledge training committees were restructured to
operate more efficiently. Weekly written reports are
keeping the chapter informed of their activities. With a
concerted effort by the members and the support of this
administration, the new system is making inroads.
Pertaining to rush, I would like to ask our alumni to
continue their support of our chapter with recom
mendations of incoming freshmen at Tech. Recom
mendations have helped us contact many fine men in
the past. There is no better way for a graduate brother
to show his support for an undergraduate chapter.

the third year in a row. He placed fourth in the race,
held May 5.

shown and much greater participation than at any
previous time.

Rush efforts are continuing at chapter
Since the middle of winter quarter the rush com
mittee has continued to contact prospective members.
This contacting has been carried out mainly by the new
initiates who are still in the dormitories and, con
sequently, in touch daily with many freshmen they
have gotten to know. These rushees are invited over to
the house for meals and social functions where they are
met by the members in the house.
Through this program we have given out seven bids,
gained four pledges, and are expecting a few more
prospects. At present we have 10 pledges, four of whom
will be eligible in the fall for initiation, and six who were
eligible spring quarter. Our hopes are that, with an
extensive year-round rush program, we will be under
less pressure at the start of every year for new mem
bers. But, until that time, our efforts will be directed
toward finding good men whenever we can.
