The 10
Annual Morris Pig Dinner - A Success
Uho Alpha's Tenth Annual Norris Fig Dinner proved to be one of
the best ever. Over ifO graduates returned to the fair town of
Slacksburg to bring the total number of guests to over one hundred.
The Marriott's Jacob's Lantern Lounge was spendidly prepared by the
people at Marriott, and everyone enjoyed the marvelous Roast Beef
au jus. The ceremony was highlighted by the charm of our keynote
speaker, Michael Griffith.
Scholarship awards went to junior Paul Zawistowski and sophomore Fred Schlang. The Undergraduate of the Year Award went most
deservedly to Ed Hardell. One of our most distinguished graduate
brothers, Howard C. Canada, received the Graduate of the Year Award
and the Ten Year Outstanding Graduate Brother Award. Congratulations to all the fine people who received awards!
The ceremony was followed by a night of socializing and dancing
in the friendly atmosphere of true brotherhood. Thanks once again
to Michael Griffith and all who made the Tenth Annual Norris Pig
Dinner a true success.

The President Reports I extend my thanks to everyone, graduates and undergraduates
alike, who contributed to the welfare of our chapter during the
past year. Although there have been disappointments, there have
been many more rewarding successes and accomplishments. Rho Alpha
has pledged seven men this year and seeks that many more for next
Fall Quarter alone. Once again, Rho Alpha has succeeded in winning
the All-Fraternity Scholastic Award with an outstanding 2.82 Quality Credit Average for the year. Included in that average was a
record breaking QCA o'f 3.10& for the past Winter Quarter; almost
one tenth of a point above any QCA previously achieved by a Virginia Tech Fraternity.
The major disappointment this year has been the firmness of our
6hapter. However, the rallying together of the Chapter at our
Norris Pig Dinner has transformed this disappointment into a shining example of Brotherhood. Donations totalling S^,796.00, pledged
over the upcoming year, will see us through the summer mortgage
payment, the fire insurance payment, an«f will help the House Corporation bring the mortgage payments up to date. The Chapter is
currently behind two months on the mortgage loan from National
Headquarters. Hopefully, any extra money will be set aside for
the future rewiring of our house.
Another disappointment, although unavoidable, has been the
leees due to graduation. John Adamo and Ed Hardell have been
sorely missed already. Next year, the Chapter will miss Dave
Dvorak, Henry King, and Amos Webb. We wish them the best of luck
in their careers.
Vfo atijnrlnh the best of luck to you and your loved ones. Take
care, keep in touch, and drink one for the good 01' Delta we
adore.

House Improvements We at Rho Alpha are quite proud of our House, which sets us
apart from most of the other Fraternities at Virginia Tech. Within the past year, we have completed a number of house improvements.
The Fall Pledge Class re-tiled the upstairs bathroom, removing the
window which has served as an eye-sore and heatsink. A new barbaque pit, canstrueted at almost no cost, added a nice touch to the
graduate picnic. Other projects completed include the construction
of a shelf in the living room for trophies and photo-albums, the
building of a cabinet for the house stereo, and the addition of a
phone extension to the basement. Construction of new benches for
the basement and a cabinet behind the bar is still in progress.
There are always improvements to be made on the house.

\r\n-3The Treasurer Reports The 8hapter heartily thanks the graduates and undergraduates
for their outstanding generosity in the pledge drive at the Norris
Pig Dinner. Approximately 5^,800.00 was pledged to be donated
over a one year period. As explained at the dinner, the money will
be going to the House Corporation to help meet mortgage payments
this summer, to make the mortgage payments to the St. Louis Bank,
and to increase the electrical fund. We would like to remind those
who contributed of their obligation. If anyone has a question
about what they pledged, the ©hapter has a record of the pledges.
Checks are payable to the Rho Alpha House Corporation and can be
sent either to the Chapter house or" Howard Canada. Approximately.
$900.00 in pledges has been collected so far.
We began the school year by building up a substantial surplus
in our checking account. This was accomplished'by providing incentives for brothers to pay their quarterly dues ahead of time. We
were able to maintain an average balance of over $1,000.00 for two
quarters and received interest on our account for the first time.
Accounts receivable were lower than usual for the entire year.
However, the budget did not account for two brothers graduating
during the year, one brother resigning from school, and two brothers who were living in the house to co-op. Only five brothers
lived in the house winter and spring. As a result of these circumstances, chapter income was diminished. Chapter funds intended for
summer expenses were used to pay the mortgage.
We conducted several fund-raising activities, some of which were
successful. Approximately $200.00 was donated specifically for the
Chapter at the Norris Pig Dinner. We thank those who donated. Also,
we would like to thank those graduates who sent donations throughout the year. You have all shown great support for the chapter
throughout the year.

A Graduate Writes Greetings to all survivors, and a big "Yee-ha" for everyone.
bisc« I was just lounging around here for a few days, I was "asked"
to write a graduate's refliction on Pig Dinner. Everyone who
attended saw a. unique event in this 5hapter's history. To paraphrase Nasty, "God Damn, we are here to stay." The dates, the
dancing, the drinking, the incredible ordeal of speaches, even the
amazing displays of air-guitar, are all secondary to the memories
relived, rekindled, and created. I could say that I hope we can
keep it up, but I know a Phi Gam can always keep it up.
One point I want to throw out is our graduate feedback. lYe
loose contact with the lives and tastes of the undergrads, so if
we want something in particular done, suggest it. For example,
although I thought we had fine music, others perfer a more varied
approach: Some country, disco, funk, punk, etc. If you want
something, take an active part. This will be especially vital for
the graduate grandfather support program. It won't be very hard
to do, and the rewards will be" immense and obvious. Take part!
Well, enough said. Congratulations to everyone on a very successful and enjoyable Pig Dinner.

Spring Sports This quarter, Phi Gam participated in softball and soccor. In
90ftball, we were 1-5; a bit disappointing, but not bad for a saall
chapter competing soley with the big chapters. In soccer, we were
3-0 in the regular season. After a 2-1 overtime victory in the
first game, the other two games were won by forfeit (chickens!).
Our first university intramural playoff was against Bob's Team,
whom we defeated 2-1. After being eliminated in the second round,
2-6, we went to the IFC playoffs with high hopes. However, due to
the loss of 2 starters, we lost^ 1-5. All in all, a fine soccer
season.
