The Second Annual Fiji Open was played and
proved to be an exercise of survival as 16
brothers battled 40 degree teamperatures and 30
mile per hour winds.
This year's speaker was Don "Gomer"
McMurray, '76. Don did a great job and is a very
articulate speaker, as most people there will
attest to. The dinner began with the invocation,
given by John Sullivan '82, and then the 85.50's
were assigned the task of "Bringing in the P/g."
The pig was then blessed by A. B. Sawyer '10, in
Doug was also a Rush Chairman and VicePresident during his four years in the house.
The dinner ended with the recognition of
Owen Ackerman '60, for earning the Silver Owl for
25 years' membership to PGD. Among the
highlights of the evening, as always, was the
personal introductions of the 120 undergraduate
and graduate members in attendance. Each
member gave a brief statement of their accom
plishments since leaving 401.
After dinner everyone moved back-to 401 to
party like only Phi Gam's can. The party, which
lasted into the morning was enjoyed by all.
Special thanks go to Penn Nelson (Minnesota,
front, and by Mike Lee '85, from behind.

Summer 1982
It's that time again, Brothers
As all of the Brothers of Chi lota, Classes of 1967 and before, vividly remember that Easter of 1964 was a historic
weekend for our Chapter. The Chapter House burned down. It was rebuilt in 1964 and 1965 with great financial help
from many of our alumni.
For the past 5 or so years, your Board of Directors of the House Corporation has undertaken substantial
maintenance and remodeling at 401. We have redone the Library. We financed a study/party room in the basement.
We have redone areas of the kitchen, dining room floor, and front entrance. And, currently, we are putting the finishing
touches on the Living Room and Pool Room.
Our recent projects have been directed by the BCA (Board of Chapter Advisors), a group of alums who work
closely both with the undergrade and the House Corporation. Much of the labor has been performed by the Undergrade
themselves, adding a new dimension to the pride in our Chapter House. And, all of the projects in recent years have
been funded from the interest we have earned from the Buckley Fund, an endowment from our late Brother Warren
Buckley.
But, we still have several major projects to complete. The Housing Inspectors are requiring us to install a new
quarry tile floor in the kitchen. Our single-pane glass windows on the first floor are terribly inefficient, and we need
outer storm windows or new double-pane insulated windows. And, we want to remove a wall in the study/party room in
the basement and expand into the "weight room/gym."
These extra projects are necessary, but they will be expensive. So, for the first time in 18 years, the House
Corporation is asking you for your financial help. Our goal is a contribution of at least $100 from each alum of Chi lota.
But let me re-emphasize a point I made earlier. The classes of 1964 and before gave generously to rebuild the house in
1964. We need the same generosity this time from the classes of 1965 through 1981. Your checks should be made
payable to Chi lota. Phi Gamma Delta (they are tax deductible) and mailed to our Corporation Treasurer, Mike
Londrigan, 24 Villa Grove, Springfield, Illinois 62707. We will be persistent, so please write your check now and mail it
today.

Finally, the upcoming school year will present many opportunities for you to come back to your chapter house.!
The Football Schedule this coming fall is great and the outlook for an outstanding season is high. The basketball
schedule promises to be exciting and the incoming freshman recruits are possibly the top class in the country. And, we
are planning a very special commemorative pig dinner next spring, about which we'll say more later. So this year, more
than ever before, we need your financial support and physical presence. Welcome back to Chi lota, your chapter
house.
