Fiji Vies For All-Sports Trophy
Once again, the Fijis are the house
to beat in intramurals. The Phi Gams
have captured the large fraternity
all-sports trophy six of the last eight
years. Last year, the Phi Gams won
the competition by the biggest point
spread in years. However, five other
first place finishes in wrestling, swim
ming, and table tennis. The Fijis also
finished among the top teams in foot
ball, handball, and golf. The second
semester is always Zeta's strong point,
as the Fijis dominate intramural
basketball at lU. With this in mind,
fraternities promise to give the Fijis it seems a safe bet that the coveted
all-sports trophy will remain in good
a battle to get the big one back.

The 1982-83 academic year is continuing the momentum of 1981-82.
After a very successful and unusually active summer, the men of Zeta are
meeting the many challenges of the school year. As always, we plan not to
rest on our accomplishments, but rather to continue striving for even

134th Ekklessia was held in Toronto this past summer, and
Zeta was once again well represented. Zeta placed third in competition for
the Cheney Cup (overall chapter efficiency) and the Brightman Award
(outstanding graduate relations program), and received honorable mention
in voting for the Archon's Trophy (campus activities). In addition, the
chapter received an award for maintaining a grade point average above
the all-men's average for 23 years in a row—the longest streak among all

This past summer also saw Beechwood take on a more attractive appear

landscaping of the front and side of the house, resealing of the parking
lot, painting of the hallways, back stairwell and sub-basement and a
general straightening up of the house. The first-ever sessions were a great

Zeta was blessed with another fine pledge class this year. The 27 newest
Fijis are a diverse and talented group who are already making their impact
felt at Beechwood.
In closing, let me say that brotherhood at Zeta is as strong as it has ever
been, enabling the chapter to truly distinguish itself as a close-knit fraternity
of men.

it is easy to see that the atmosphere at Beechwood creates a unique
chemistry among all who dwell there. The brothers of Zeta have much to look
forward to in the remaining months of this school year, and plan to meet
every challenge with the effort and determination that sets our chapter
apart from any other fraternity at lU. It is with great pride that we say
"Mighty glad to be a Zeta Fiji!"
