"THE IMPORTANCE OF YOU"
In accordance with the By-Laws of the Pi Sigma Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta, the regular Annual Meeting will be held
Where are all the strong young men of yesterday who pro
claimed so proudly that their fraternal spirit was "not for
college days alone"?

you have never been needed before!
The challenges which presently face our Chapter at Pitt
4725 Wallingfoid Street
are all too clear:
(1) Handsomely furnished college dormi
tories for men offer severe competition to all fraternities
on the Pitt Campus._ In particular, our undergraduate Chap

ter is sorely lacking in some of the most basic furnishings
which any fraternity must have to make it an attractive and
wholesome place to live.
Many of you slept in the same beds
and mattresses which are now in use.
Good desks and scudy
lamps, so essential in creating a proper desire to learn,
are for the most part non-existent.
The age and condition
of our kitchen equipment makes the preparation of meals all

for housing
This has resulted in a loss of income to the
fraternity from which it had been paying rent to the graduate
Chapter.
Without
sufficient
rental
income the graduate
Chapter has been unable to make needed improvements to the
Chapter house and pay the necessary real estate taxes and
insurance.
Last month it was necessary to make a short term
loan of $1,000 to cover just such expenses.
In doing so we
have anticipated that graduate dues and contributions and
undergraduate rental payments due this Fall will provide the
source
for
repayment of the loan.
Whether or not the undergraduate Chapter at Pitt is to
remain as we have known it will depend in large measure upon
you,
its graduate brothers.
If Penn State Alumni within the last five years and W. Pr
J, Alumni within the last fifteen years can build modern
fraternity houses on
their campuses and if Allegheny can
raise $150,000.00 for the same purpose in a campaign which
its Alumni are presently undertaking, why can't Pitt Alumni
subscribe generously to a modest program of giving for es
sential house furnishings which are needed now?
The urgency
of the present situation was fully explained in the last
news letter. Yet, only 31 brothers have donated $506.00
over and above their dues and contributions. Altogether
only 67 have donated their $5.00 each for annual dues and

All of you more than 600 Alumni should reconsider your
stake in the future of our fraternity at Pitt by thought

The recently selected Field Secretary, Dick

His experience and advice was well needed.
The
brothers wish to thank all those graduates who have helped
up to this time and we invite any of the other graduates to
join with us in these rushing events.
Four of the brothers attended the 112th "Wilkinson" Ek-

Tom Lohrentz was a member of the initiating team for Phi
Gamma Delta's newest Chapter, Kappa Upsilon at Kent State
University.
The 87th chapter entered the hallowed ranks of
Fiji land on April 23.
Tom, Recording Secretary for the
initiating team, was joined at the festivities by Brother

The close of summer brought a stir of activity at the
"House on Wallingford Street." Following the Department of
Safety's edict closing our third floor due to a single es
cape means,
furniture was rearranged and the second floor
was refurbished. The accumulated "junk" from years of float
building was hauled away. Portions of the first floor were
plastered and the yearly painting and varnishing was com
pleted.
The 1960-1961 year is a big year at Pi Sigma. The chap
ter looks forward to having you come around to the House at
your leisure and enjoying a few hours in Fiji brotherhood.

Since January 1, I960, 67 Brothers have paid their annual dues of $5.00 plus $516, 00 in additional contributions, or an

The class of 1923 takes over the lead from the class of 1944 with seven contributing brothers. There are many classes not
represented and many more with only one brother's name. We sincerely hope that more of our brothers will be inclined to
contribute at least their Pi Sigma graduate dues.
A complete listing of brothers who have contributed during I960 follows below,
