GAMMA DEUTERON WINS JORDAN BOWL AWARD

was
award, although the chapter has
been consistently highly ranked in
recent years. The Knox Fijis have
finished higher than sixth place for
seven of the past nine years, having
placed second once and third twice.
The chapter was third-ranked na
tionally the previous year.
On the Knox campus, the Fijis,
having retired the Farnum Cup for
fraternity scholarship in 1952, have
been top among the Knox fraterni
ties for eight of the past eleven
years. Fiji pledge classes have held
the IFC scholarship trophy since its
establishment three years ago. In
addition, Harry Row won the coveted
Hunter Trophy for the highest schol
awarded
the coveted Jordan Bowl, given an
nually to the first-rated Fiji chapter
in the nation scholastically, at the
49th Norris Pig Dinner, February 28.
The presentation of the sterling sil
ver bowl by C. Ernest Lovejoy, (Illi
nois, '19), past Archon Secretary,
highlighted the banquet.
Approximately thirty
graduate
members were on hand for the din
ner, which was held at the Fiji house.
Brother Lovejoy was the main speak
er, with Dick Neumiller, '53, presid
ing as toastmaster.
Robert C. Woolsey, '09, was an
nounced as the recipient of the
Alumnus
Achievement
Award.
As
usual. Brother Woolsey was the life
of the banquet, and he gave the
group an interesting description of
Siwash Fiji life of his undergraduate
days. His award, the pin of the late
Dr. J. J. Hammond, '97, was pre
sented by Dr. Hammond's son, Calvin
Hammond, '28.
