COLONY
August 1961
NUMBER WO
Since its official founding April 21, 1961, the Phi Gamma Delta-Delta Colony
at Oklahoma State University has made tremendous progress toward becoming what
we, the colony member^ are planning for—an outstanding FIJI chapter,
,
The fdlowing brief resume of facts and figures will give some idea of the
colony's progress during the short time it has been in operation,
I, MEIBERS
Delta Colony at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, will
begin the academic year with twelve returning members. The overall
grade point of the returning members is 2,7. Among Oklahoma State's
colony members is a varsity wrestler who is also on the Dean's Honor Roll,
Other members are members of the campus Honors Seminar, reserved for top
students, honor students in pre-med, honor students in agriculture and
honor students in political science. The more musically mided colony
members have formed a folk singing quartet which has become the nucleus
for the colony's singing activities. Delta Colony at OSU has become noted
for its songfests and has on several occasions presented concerts for
Oklahoma State fraternities and sororities.
The Oklahoma State Delta Colony holds the distinction of being the only
colony to receive dinner invitations from every sorority on the OSU campus
and has been invited to participate in the Interfraternity Council in
fully active status. These two honors are just a small indication of the
reputation for "sharpness" the OSU Delta Colony has established,
H^. HOUSING
As a result of much hard work. Delta Colony at OSU finds itself in
a rather unique situation for a living group which has been on campus
only one month. Delta Colony, just prior to this conference, completed
arrangements to move into a large air-conditioned house, wholly carpeted
and located in the heart of the fraternity district. The colony will
finance the house from its own funds and the ^^2Q000 addition which will
be completed in September will be financed in the same way, lounge
furniture for the house is a gift from Nu Omega chapter at Oklahoma
U niversity.

III. GEADUATE' SUPPORT
The Oklahoma City graduate chapter has assxMed the load for advisement
aid support of OSU's Delta Colony as well as OU's Nu Omega Chq)ter. In
the near future, the responsibility for Delta Colony will be transferred
to the Tulsa-Muskogee graduate chapter. Credit must also go to Mr, Ben
Tr* Head, Section Chief^for his efforts in the colony's behalf,
IV, REL/vTIONS I'JITH COLIEGE ADMINISTRATION
OSU's Delta Colony's relations with the Oklahcana State University
administration and faculty couldn't be better. As an example, the dean
of fraternity affairs has helped the Colony secure bedding aid mattresses
from the University for use in the Colony hotise. On occasion, faculty
members have commented to Colony members that Phi Gamma Delta was "some
thing special"and complemented the boys on their choice of fraternity.
V, RUSH
Delta Colony does not rush for quantity, nor does it rush for outstanding
record alone. Rather the Oklahoma State Delta Colony, in keeping with
the traditions of the fraternity, screens carefvilly evdry man considered
for membership, using as criteria, (1) scholastic record, (2) extra
curricular record, (3) reccommendations, (U) compatibility with other
rushees and Colony members.
It is o\ar belief that a minimuin of four
dates should be held with a man before he is considered for a bid.
This
policy has become known throughout the state and the Colony has received
many favorable comments on it.
VI. OUTLOOK FOR THE FUTURE
The future of Delta Colony at Oklahoma State University is best eicpressed
in the words of one of our rushees, "The FIJI colony is already one of the
best at OSU and everyone says that in another year no other fraternity will
come close to it."
Needless to say, that's our opinion tooj
