COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS SPREAD GOOD WILL FOR DELTA XI
Five members of Delta XI, accompanied by six women from Holy Names Col
lege In Oakland, took 20 first-graders from St, Vincent's Orphanage In San Rafael
to see Santa Claus In San Francisco,
The five, Mai Lelser '63, Jerry Rekers '64, Mike Durney '65, Tlrh Kearne '65,
and Bob Harman '65 left Berkeley December 2 under a torrent of rain at 9 a,m.
After picking up the women at Holy Names, they went to the orphanage, St. Vin
cents turned out to be quite an extraordinary establishment, looking very much like
a medieval Spanish monastary. The youngsters were rather quiet at first, but this
temperment soon subsided when they left the orphanage grounds.
As the group entered the city, the weather cleared up. After a considerable
delay due to traffic, the cars were securely berthed In Union Square Garage, Her
ding 20 extremely active six-year-old boys through the Christmascarowjds of San Fran
cisco proved to be somewhat of a hassle, but soon, thanks to the unflagging efforts
of the five Fljls, they were all safely deposited at the feet of Santa Claus at the White
House.
The group then went to Golden Gate Park for a picnic lunch, which the girls so
generously provided. After lunch, the boys toured Stelnhart Aquarium, a source of
great Interest to all. By 3 p, m,, the youngsters were returned to St, Vincent's
quite pleased and extremely grateful for the chance to have an afternoon away from
the orphanage,

FATHER-SON
DAY
TRADITION
REVIVED
Father-Son Day, a Delta Xi tradition which had been allowed to die three years
ago, was revived this year as fathers of the undergraduates gathered at the chapter
house for brunch November 18.
The festivities began at 11 a.m., when the guests and the undergraduates were
served lunch, tastefully prepared by Harry Hart. After lunch, the part adjourned
to Memorial Stadium for the Cal-Kaneas game. (Suffice to say that Cal lost -- we
won't mention the score!)
After the game, all returned to the house for an open house. The event was a
great success, since it gave the fathers a chance to meet the men of Delta Xi.
