PLEDGING
This semester at Western has seen a renewed inte
rest in the fraternity system by the incoming freshmen
and transfer students.
Our Rush proved most successful this semester,
having the house as a focal point. We feel that we
have come up with the most enthusiastic pledge class
that the colony has had yet.
Among their many duties around the house, the
pledge class is planning several "secret" money making
projects to pay for their class project. This is the first
time that a pledge class has been so organized as to
have the initiative to present a project to the colony.
These men are Steve Kuhlman, Jim Dickie, George
Felski Jr., Tom Bierman, and Neil Mui-awski. We look
forward to having these men as actives when they ai'c
initiated in December. These men will make our colony
a strong and influential chapter on campus when we
are chartered.

SOCIAL
Our Fall pledge class; a fine bunch of men.
The FIJI social life at WMU has really been going
strong this first semester. Although our social budget
is almost depleted, we've still got some good parties
planned for the end of the semester. Coming up in
the near future is the "Gay 90's Party." Everyone is
firing up for that. Last weekend we had a giant
scavenger hunt which involved searching for articles
in the whole Kalamazoo area. Everybody thought
this was a real different kind of party and added a
kind of flare to a party.
We are really getting to know the sororieties on
campus through our afternoon T.G.s and have a few
planned before the semester ends. Even though we
are young on campus, we are very involved socially
among the students.

After the first half of our touch football season,
our record was one win and two losses. We finally
got things together and won our next two out of three
games. In our last game, we needed a win to finish
the season at .500. This was our best game of the
season as we demolished Phi Sigma Kappa 34-6.

We have also received the go ahead from the
Veterans Visitation program on our selection of a
house. The coordinator, Mrs. Mary Hahn, has sent
us information on the problems facing the five men in
forms of critiques. Both the VA and Mr. Ferryman,
the owner of the house, believe that our relationship
with these gentlemen can be very beneficial; so do we!
In summary, we sincerely believe that our com

Intramural soccer just doesn't seem to be our game!
In our first game, we squeaked out a tie with Phi
Sigma Kappa in overtime as we had a little help from
our field secretary. Bob Wurzel in a 2-2 mud bath of

one. Our record now is I win, three losses, and a tie.
Although our record might not show it, we have been
playing pretty fair but we just don't seem to get the
breaks. All in all, even though we haven't been win
ning, we sure are giving the opponents a good game
and the FIJIs are making a name in sports around
campus.
MONEY MAKING
As the time for chartering draws closer into view,
the colony is putting a concentrated effort into the
field of money making projects. Lately we have been
working on a variety of projects to obtain capital.
Last month we held a car wash and brought a film
to campus to be shown by us.
This month we worked on the Gilmore's Thanks
giving Day Parade. This envolved three eight hour
shifts to build the floats and also dressing up as
clowns and pulling them in the parade. Very soon
we will be showing the movie "Joe" in the East
Ballroom of our Student Union. We have been making
profit on these acivities and we are always interested
in any new ideas. If you could think of any, these
ideas would be most appreciated.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
The colony had 100% participation in the Red
Cross Fall Blood Drive, a record acheived by only 3
organizations on campus.
We also sponsored a walker in the Youth Kalama
